The poor will always be with us. But there was a time not that long ago with much broader prosperity than we have today.

I bring it up in this thread because I agree with the republican free market ideology here, but we need to remember why we tied this market in knots in the first place, which was to protect people from other faults in the economy. If you fix this without fixing the underlying problem, people will be hurt. Since we won't realistically fix the underlying problem than we can't fix this one either. Subsidies must stay.

When Gorbachev was reforming the USSR in the 80s, he removed some food subsidies and prices went through the roof. Middle class Russians were standing in food bank lines for hours to get bread. The communist system was so dysfunctional, people couldn't afford bread without intervention. That's how I see American healthcare. We are this screwed up.

Well that's what they say about healthcare in some places you wait weeks or months (bread lines) for a procedure.

When I say no poor people. I mean 50-70 years from now. Energy should not be an issue any longer. You will be able to grow food using that free energy. Housing will become almost free because you will be able to build automated structures. A million other problems have the potential to arise that could inhibit aspects of living a healthy and safe life though.

Letting it fail is the right thing to do since you don't have a bill that's not just Obamacare 2.0. Hopefully after it fails people get serious.....but more likely we'll have people pushing for something even worse like a single payer system (which is just Obamacare that is a LOT more expensive) because that's how stupid people generally are.

Letting it fail because the GOP sits on their fat asses while watching Trumpkin play several rounds of golf does not provide any good optics.

People usually blame the party in power, not the party responsible for making the flawed bill.

Yea, because single payer is doing so bad for Britain, Canada, Japan, you know, most modern countries.

Seems like that's giving Democrsats lot of ammo in the mid terms... 7 years of complaining about ACA and the best they can do is repeal it and kick millions off healthcare.

    Once upon a time president:
    "The buck stops here."

    President of today:
"I'm not going to own it."

Wonder how much gold President Truman played?

How something is doing elsewhere is irrelevant, look for examples of how government run healthcare works in this country rather than how it works in completely different countries. It's something this country has already proven that they can't handle worth a damn even in a small scale....but sure throw a ton more money at it and it'll magically start working better, that's absolutely liberal logic.

"Most modern countries" don't have the responsibilities and specific problems that the US does, so how things work there is irrelevant. For fun we'll look at just one issue that the US has to deal with that others don't, find me a country with a successful universal healthcare system that has to deal with an illegal immigrant population that makes up over 3% of the total population, I'll wait.

In fact, the only country in Europe that I can find that has a comparable illegal immigration problem to the US is Greece.....and we see how well it worked out there.

My god you are stupid. You are seriously comparing the effects of migration between two completly different counties in terms of economic capacity.

Trump's failure to corral and convince his Republicans into passing legislation; while controlling BOTH Senate AND the House.

    Yuge Fail!

    Sad!

He doesn't need the Democrats if he can convince his own 52 Senators. But he can't even do THAT. LOL what a joke. But but but... Best Negotiator. Deal maker! LOLLLLL

It is not failing, but can be improved, the Dems should introduce improvements and take charge of this situation.
