http://www.usatoday.com/story/opinion/2013/04/10/philadelphia-abortion-clinic-horror-column/2072577/ We've forgotten what belongs on Page One. Kirsten Powers Infant beheadings. Severed baby feet in jars. A child screaming after it was delivered alive during an abortion procedure. Haven't heard about these sickening accusations? It's not your fault. Since the murder trial of Pennsylvania abortion doctor Kermit Gosnell began March 18, there has been precious little coverage of the case that should be on every news show and front page. The revolting revelations of Gosnell's former staff, who have been testifying to what they witnessed and did during late-term abortions, should shock anyone with a heart. NBC-10 Philadelphia reported that, Stephen Massof, a former Gosnell worker, "described how he snipped the spinal cords of babies, calling it, 'literally a beheading. It is separating the brain from the body." One former worker, Adrienne Moton, testified that Gosnell taught her his "snipping" technique to use on infants born alive. Massof, who, like other witnesses, has himself pleaded guilty to serious crimes, testified "It would rain fetuses. Fetuses and blood all over the place." Here is the headline the Associated Press put on a story about his testimony that he saw 100 babies born and then snipped: "Staffer describes chaos at PA abortion clinic." "Chaos" isn't really the story here. Butchering babies that were already born and were older than the state's 24-week limit for abortions is the story. There is a reason the late Democratic senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan called this procedure infanticide. Planned Parenthood recently claimed that the possibility of infants surviving late-term abortions was "highly unusual." The Gosnell case suggests otherwise. Regardless of such quibbles, about whether Gosnell was killing the infants one second after they left the womb instead of partially inside or completely inside the womb — as in a routine late-term abortion — is merely a matter of geography. That one is murder and the other is a legal procedure is morally irreconcilable. A Lexis-Nexis search shows none of the news shows on the three major national television networks has mentioned the Gosnell trial in the last three months. The exception is when Wall Street Journal columnist Peggy Noonan hijacked a segment on Meet the Press meant to foment outrage over an anti-abortion rights law in some backward red state. The Washington Post has not published original reporting on this during the trial and The New York Times saw fit to run one original story on A-17 on the trial's first day. They've been silent ever since, despite headline-worthy testimony. Let me state the obvious. This should be front page news. When Rush Limbaugh attacked Sandra Fluke, there was non-stop media hysteria. The venerable NBC Nightly News' Brian Williams intoned, "A firestorm of outrage from women after a crude tirade from Rush Limbaugh," as he teased a segment on the brouhaha. Yet, accusations of babies having their heads severed — a major human rights story if there ever was one — doesn't make the cut. You don't have to oppose abortion rights to find late-term abortion abhorrent or to find the Gosnell trial eminently newsworthy. This is not about being "pro-choice" or "pro-life." It's about basic human rights. The deafening silence of too much of the media, once a force for justice in America, is a disgrace. 4 posts, no commentary by anyone. This is a perfect example of why it didn't make national news: it's not very interesting and there's not much to say. There's no one famous involved. It's ugly, but not terribly controversial. No politicians or other national figures have weighed in. I don't think many people would support what this doctor did. There are dozens, if not more, ugly/weird/disturbing trials going on at any given time in the country that don't get coverage. It's not unusual. The comparison made in the article was Sandy Fluke - that got national coverage because Rush Limbaugh has a huge audience and made a stupid statement, which got politicians of all sorts involved, etc. It had all the elements of something that would get covered by the news, especially in middle of political season.
I would love to chime in.......cause I watched the whole thing and it did not change where I stand. But until OP decides to give his view........and be willing to have an honest conversation.......I will wait.
why would whether you give commentary be dependent on what some stranger thinks? Do you have thoughts you want to share on the issue? then speak up. Anyways bad ****. Awful, sick human beings would do this and go to sleep at night. The author of the article asks why this isn't on the front page of every newspaper. I think the answer to that is pretty obvious. Left-wing media would never push this story.
i disagree. this is as horrific, and touches on as controversial a subject, as newtown. it should get the same level of attention and focus.
the scribed embeds are screwy for me, but here are 4 docs you need to read to understand the trial: http://www.buzzfeed.com/andrewkaczynski/four-documents-to-understand-the-kermit-gosnell-trial
truly tragic for the loss of life. This is just as bad as killing a child at Newtown. History will not look bad kindly on the abortion era... shameful
Perhaps the worst human rights atrocity in this country in decades, and the left shrugs. Infants born alive, decapitated, spines snipped, body parts in jars. A human chop shop. Major declares it "not very interesting".
The worst human rights atrocity in the US in decades is 7 botched late term abortions over a period of several years in Philadelphia? Really? Poor Newtown families, there's 3 dead kids for 1 fetus exchange rate on the atrocity meter in the wingnutosphere. I wonder if they can get a Groupon or something in order to attract critical basketball message board support from standup guyz like bassodore.
That's only what they felt could charge, since most of the babies were chopped up and thrown away, along with the records. http://www.lifenews.com/2013/04/09/gosnell-worker-baby-jumped-when-i-snipped-her-neck-in-abortion/ Gosnell performed thousands of procedures. It is likely hundreds of babies were delivered alive, flipped over, and their spines snipped. Gosnell might be the most prolific mass murderer in US history.
he's charged with 8 fatalities- he performed hundreds, if not thousands, of late term abortions. and these were not "botched." this was his technique for these procedures. he's a mass murderer, and on a scale we're only beginning to understand. i can't fathom your attempts to diminish his crimes.
I'm not sure comparing this to 23 little kids being butchered by a gunman helps your cause, conservatives. Especially when there are entire discussions are off the table according to anti-gun control folks. How about this, only fetuses of liberals can be aborted and only children of conservatives can be massacred by guns in schools. Agreed?
HE is being tried for 7. That is not the number of murders he committed. http://www.theatlantic.com/national...ls-trial-should-be-a-front-page-story/274944/
Who's arguing Newtown should not have gotten coverage? And these were infants, born alive, slaughtered, not fetuses.
