I heard about some issues with avatars, but it's not too much of a problem to fix, I had to fix mine. What's your gamertag and password? It shouldn't take long.
To that point, though, I don't see where that's a problem. If you've got a multiplatform game, and it's pretty much the same in every regard, I see nothing wrong with the Achievements factoring in to the decision. You are going to be playing the exact same game, in the exact same way, so if you just have a few extra things to 'unlock' it makes sense that some folks would consider that a bonus. I agree with CCR. I don't see anything wrong with them, or deciding to get a game because it has them. It's just as valid as any other reason to pick a multiplatform game, all other issues (control scheme, game altering bugs, etc.) being equal.
Sorry, I guess I didn't explain that well enough. I agree with you 100% in that, assuming all else equal (or just "most" things being equal), it is perfectly fine to let trophies/achievements be the deciding factor. I certainly would do that, and I don't particularly care that much for them. I was talking about 3 differerent scenario, which I'll try to explain more clearly here: 1) Game doesn't have trophies (EX: Disgaea 3). People looking forward to game decide not to pick it up because it doesn't have trophies. This is a PS3-only issue AFAIK. IOW, not talking about multiplatform games...unless we're talking about multiplatform games but PS3-only owners. 2) Generic crappy game comes out. Not very good, but it is really easy to get trophies/achievements, which is more than enough for some people to give it a shot. Not really a horrible thing, but shows what I mean by overrating this feature. Some people will play a bad game just for the trophies/achievements. 3) Basically what you said, only there is a big difference in some other area (or areas). Can't really think of a good example where this actually happened though, but it was more of a hypothetical thing anyway.
Ah. Yeah, I definitely agree with those. I'm hoping those instances are more the minority, but you never know.
Yeah, I feel like they're relatively minor, especially #1 and #3. I do see #2 from time to time, although to be fair, it tends to involve downloadable games more so than $60 retail releases, which is a bit more understandable (downloadable games can be a bit of a crapshoot). In some of those cases, it wasn't necessary involving a bad game though, such as when Sony finally start supported trophies. Games like PixelJunk Eden and Super Stardust HD were the first ones to support them, and it seemed like some people bought those games just to try out the trophies.
i bought GOW 2 last night. didnt play it much. the gameplay felt weird from the first one....i dont know if its slower or what.
The new Netflix service on NXE keeps killing my xbox 360 wireless connection to my linksys router. I have to end up rebooting the game adapter...and test my connection to get it back. It happens about five or ten minutes into whatever I'm watching...in this case a Mount Everest 1996 deaths documentary. Kind of sucks.
I'm not sure it's Netflix, actually. That happened to me a few times after updating. The adapter would flash red and the connection wouldn't work. I didn't have to test the connection, though. Unplugged, waited 10 seconds, replugged the adapter in and the light on it would turn green. I could just reconnect to Live then. I hadn't even used Netflix yet when that happened, though. However, after doing it a couple times that first day it hasn't done it since.
I love it. The new look is very sleek and the avatar feature is going to be something great in the feature. Here is how my looks currently:
There was a Netflix server error message that popped up which appeared after the video feed abruptly halted. I think it was on their side. The side effect of the error cause a hosed connection on my side. I'm not having any problems today, though. Today...at first...the video quality said 3 bars in HD. But, while watching...it went through downgrade process during watching because I guess my cable connection couldn't keep up with the HD feed. At least it's aware enough to try downgrading the signal instead of just telling me to f_ck off.
Yeah, it's definitely a possibility, though like I said I had the same problem without Netflix. The Netflix application would show a error message if the connection went down, too, though. It's actually software loaded into the dashboard on your side as well. The app could show the error once the feed is cut, because the connection died. Who knows. Hopefully whatever it was has been resolved.
I can't stop playing gears 2, and i did not really care for the first that much...... It is freaking amazing............
not really liking the matchmaking system either. part of the reason i barely play halo...you spend half your time searching for people to play EDIT: yea think i'm taking this game back...i cant stand sitting around waiting so long for it to match make i literally just waited about 7 minutes for gow 2 to search for opposing team members to play against
