If anyone is curious about how to get the Netflix thing working, it is a lot easier than I expected it to be. If you already have a Netflix account, be sure that you have a few movies lined up in your 'Add to Instant' queue, then go onto your 360 and open up the Netflix section. From there it asks if you want to start a new free trial, or if you already have an account. Choose 'I already have an account', and then it will display a little 6 or 7-character long code. Then go into your Netflix account on your computer, to the link the 360 tells you to use, type it in, it cooks for maybe a couple of minutes, and boom. That is literally all there is to it. You will now see the movies in your 'instant' queue lined up on your 360 ready to be watched. So far, I see nothing but coolness and it appears to be rock-solid. As for how many movies it does or does not have available just yet? Well, ok, but all I know is there are a ton more available on the 360 through Netflix NOW than there were, say, a week ago
i used it last night after signing up for netflix, and while the selection is limited, it works great. the only issue i had was with the xbox360 fan noise
I don't get the hate for achievements and trophies... If you choose to play a game, I can only assume that the point is either to have fun, to complete the game, or both. So let's say I'm playing a game I think is fun (for me, it's currently Dead Space) and I have 39 of the 48 possible achievements after finishing the game. What's nerdy or dumb about wanting to go ahead and get all 48 so I can truly "complete" the game? It's just added replay value to me. I fail to see how that makes me more nerdy, or is more meaningless than sitting down to play the game in the first place. There's a reason it's called a videogame.
I don't think people hate achievements/trophies. Some people just don't think very much of them. There are some instances where they can lead to problems (see LBP levels created just for getting a bunch of trophies in 5 seconds), but achievements/trophies themselves aren't bad. At worst, they're just something to ignore. Of course, some people seem to overrate them too. Not getting a game because it doesn't have them, getting a game solely because it does have them (easy points), or having it be the most important deciding factor (achievements/trophies over better graphics...or something like that, I don't know). Doubt this is very common, but these would probably be the "achievement/trophy whores" that people talk about. I would like it if we got more for them than just a score though. I haven't really paid much attention (partly due to my attitude towards trophies), but I think Insomniac gives you points for your trophies which you can use for various things in-game (similar to their past games). I wish more developers did this. Or even better, if Sony/MS gave you some incentive. I think Sony is hinting that collecting trophies will unlock things in Home, although if it just unlocks new clothes for my avatar, I still won't care that much.
I classified those opinions as people who couldn't care less about them (thus, something to ignore), not something they hate. Meaningless sure, but not something that negatively affects their time playing games, which would cause them to hate achievements/trophies. Of course, if they know a bunch of people who keep bringing up how awesome their achievement/trophy score is, then maybe they really do hate them....although not directly.
what's the quality like - is it dvd-quality? and do they have new releases? i may change from blockbuster to this is if it's any good.
Definitely at least DVD quality. I did not grab any HD movies in my queue yet, but the 360 upscales already anyway. The quality was excellent.
Achievements and trophies are important to a lot of gammers, creating a reason to play the games longer, it is competition, bragging rights, putting your initials on the Cyberball game. It has and always will be important to some, and unimportant to others, but having it...is essential to any gaming system. DD
I wish Microsoft would offer rewards for gamer points. Gamer points mean you play their system, have xbox live, and buy/rent their games. It could be something small like offering themes or downloads of cheap arcade games. At the very least the game should give you some benefit, such as Halo providing new armor.
Exactly. I don't hate achievements/trophies. I just don't care. What I call "dumb" is people who say "OMG!!!! WIYE WOOD ANY1 BUY TAHT GAME 4 PS3, IT DUZNT HVE ACHIEVEMENTS LOLZ!!!!" ...because those people are annoying as hell. And dumb. I hold these truths to be self-evident.
Now THAT would be sweet. Give us some incentive, even if that incentive is infinitesimally small. At least it's something.
Is there a reason why my avatar isn't showing up on that site? Do you have to save it somewhere special? Edit: I actually have spaces in "nutty van gundy"
