I hadn't seen anything on the 150 GB limit. I know Comcast is already putting the 250 GB in place. In all honesty, though, as these types of services grow, I doubt there will be much of a problem for distribution outlets like MS, Apple, Sony to strike deals with providers. If it gets big enough everyone will want a piece of the $$$.
Maybe it'll just take some getting used to, but the old layout seemed more clearly/intuitively organized than this one does. I think it's funny how obsessed people are with "achievements" and avatars. I couldn't care less. Give me the clean, simple, intuitive functionality of the PS3's XMB any day.
Doesn't HOME change all that? PS3 will and has become very involved in the achievements/avatars/trophies system. In any case, I'm having no problems navigating the new layout.
You can also SAVE games on your HD so you don't change disc in and out. Wonder if this works with renting games from Blockbuster, putting them on your HD and return them. Seems like it'd work. Games are like 8gb so youd need a big HD.
you have to keep the disc in the drive even after youve copied it to the hard drive if you want to play it...
I just got the RROD. First time ever and it's a couple years old. Unfortunately my box was opened for a disc tray problem that they wouldn't fix..if this update induced RROD, they'd better honor the 3 yr warranty when they receive my 360.
I don't think HOME should change that. I was under the impression that HOME was an add-on, not an interface that replaces the XMB. If that's the case, you won't see me caring much, if at all about home. I'll probably be curious to check it out for about a half-hour and then forget it exists. I just like the simplicity of the XMB. What I'm saying is, I don't understand all these people who point out 360's achievements as a differentiating factor between systems. It's dumb. They have zero meaning.
my E-penis is bigger than yours achievements is like myspace/facebook friends, trophies etc. just a benchmark for people to show off how big of a nerd they are, lol. tried the new nxe and it's a improvement over the previous blades system. the blade system was very outdated. i don't like how there isn't much i could change on my avatar, maybe it's hidden somewhere and i can't find it. it's nice how they copied sony's xmb layout and nintendo mii's. i like how you push the middle button on the controller and a easy to the point blade menu pops up. that's how it should've originally been. overall, i don't see the big deal over this? but naturally...everything microsoft does becomes a big deal thanks to their loyal ah hem customers.
*chuckle* Anyhow: I kind of agree, but it seems a lot of people do like them. I will admit the Achievements are kind of a nice extra, but only in the way 'unlockables' have always been a part of video games. The avatars I really don't care about. But still, they are a big draw to people and part of the overall package. You see how big the Miis got, you see how people like the 360 Avatars, you see how much Playstation fans talk about HOME. It seems like a lot of folks like the idea. And on a lot of video game message boards you see Playstation owners caring a lot more about trophies('achievements') now that they are in play. Sony just announced trophies were mandatory for all their games next year. To each his own, but it seems a lot of gamers want those kind of extras now.
Yeah, and that's just r****ded fanboy-ism. I don't care about achievements, and I don't care about trophies. They're equally meaningless and dumb to me. What I care about is the interface, and in that respect the PS3 wins for me.
I can't speak about Miis or 360 Avatars since I don't really pay attention to what people think about them, but I don't think Avatars is what gets people excited about Home...or got them excited about it anyway (interest has really plummeted lately due to obvious reasons). I think the community features is what got most people interested. Clan rooms, game-specific areas (EX: Warhawk planning room), live events, game launching, minigames, media sharing (although this may have been axed), etc. That's the sense I got anyway, but maybe I'm wrong. Of course, the Sackboys (and Sackgirls) in LBP are a bit like avatars, and a lot of people seem to enjoy customizing them. Minor point and a bit OT, but I love how some sites/blogs obtain "exclusive" information about things like this....even though the same information was revealed publicly months ago. Then again, the big 3 seem to enjoy recycling information like this from time to time as well, so I guess I can't blame them.
I don't think that just because a Playstation fan is looking forward to trophies that makes them a fanboy, though. Sure that could come into play (if they once talked down the idea of Achievements), but I think it's just a feature that a lot of people seem to enjoy. I don't know RC. Like on one of your favorite boards, GAF, they seemed rather excited about the avatar option and the once talked about living space idea, etc. Certainly the community features are the big draw, but at least in early info on Home there was a little Second Life type feel to it. I think that's all an offshoot of the avatar appeal. And the Sackboys thing is a good example too. I just think, for whatever reason, people like having that little feature. Hardly a make or break thing, but it seems to be a draw of sorts.
Oh, certainly not. I'm just saying if someone said they didn't care about achievements and now all of a sudden they care about trophies... well, that's the very definition of a r****ded fanboy.
Hmm...I don't know. I admit that I haven't really kept up much with some NeoGAF threads lately (or even much stuff on the Internet period), but I never quite got that impression. Sure, people look forward to creating their avatars and, probably more so, customizing their own apartments. But I think that was/is pretty low on the list of things to be excited about. Of course, for people in the private beta where nothing works except avatar/apartment customization... It seemed like most of the threads I read regarding Home were more focused on game launching, developer-created areas, live events (E3, Ubidays, etc), media sharing, etc., and not so much avatar customization. Even trophies and their interaction with Home seemed like a bigger deal, back when it seemed like the two services would launch together. I just skimmed over the new Home thread, and it seems like the priority is still on game launching, clan rooms (although partly because there was new info about this), video sharing, etc., but maybe I was just selectively picking posts that mirrored my own interests. I do agree that avatars are a nice feature though, especially if more games allow people to use them in-game. Certainly something that at least some people would really enjoy. I just think that the interest in Home goes beyond just the ability to create/use avatars. I guess to use the LBP example again, the Sackboy/Sackgirl customization is a great feature that many people enjoy (certainly doesn't make the game any worse), but I think the main interest comes from creating/sharing levels, playing the SP, playing with friends, etc.
