Ditto. Especially after getting my DSLite and absolutely falling in love with it, most fun I've had with video games since the Dreamcast.
Here are my thoughts (which I've posted a couple of times before). There is little doubt in my mind that I'll be getting a PS3, just probably not at launch. Final Fantasy and to a lesser degree Metal Gear Solid being exclusive to the PS3 pretty much sealed the deal for me. I also have some excitement for a few other PS3 titles including Heavenly Sword, Motorstorm (they are getting pretty close to that target render), the Naughty Dog game (the one in the jungle), and a few others. I'm undecided on which SKU to get mostly since I don't know when I'll be getting one. Depending on the situation and the price, I could get either one. That said, I'd probably end up getting the $500 SKU (preferably for a little less than $500 assuming a price cut comes before the games that will force me to buy one come out). I like the things that $600 SKU offers (mostly WiFi and HDMI), but I can probably go without them. I'm interested in pretty much all non-gaming features the PS3 provides, including Blu-ray playback and Linux. Assuming the LocationFree PS3 rumors were true, that would be a nice feature to have considering I also have a PSP. Assuming Sony can come close to matching the XBL service (yeah, I know that's a big assumption since they've shown jack about it), the price difference between the PS3 and 360 might not seem as bad (unless XBL becomes free for online games as well). I haven't played many games online before but I want to do so in the future; free online play will allow for me to try it out without any worries. PS1 (and possibly PS2) downloads will be nice, as well as possibly whatever else they have planned. I'm also interested in the Wii, although I'm waiting on a few things before being 100% about getting one eventually. I basically need to see that the control system they are providing is truly revolutionary and not just something that is cool for 30 minutes or so. I also would need to see some more support from developers and publishers; I'm sure most will end up supporting it, but they seem to be supporting it more like a side project instead of something that they devote most of their time (and effort) on. This isn't as big of a deal since most of the games look nice enough, but I would like to get a little more reassurance on the hardware capabilities of the system. I'm not asking for 360/PS3 performance, but something that's just much improved over current-gen systems (both in visuals and in physics, animation, AI, etc.). The visuals seem to be fine in a few games I've seen; I was just originally worried over the initial rumors that weren't very flattering when it came to hardware specs. Besides that, I'm sure the Wii will have plenty of fun games (at least from Nintendo), and will come in at an attractive price (hopefully). The Virtual Console is nice, and I'll probably try out some of the older FF games (assuming they're on there) and the Zelda games. As I mentioned with the PS3, free online play will be nice for persuading me to try out games online. The 360 is probably the system I'd be least likely to get at this point. Until they start doing better in Japan, this might be a tough sell for me since I'm a fan of several Japanese developers. Put Final Fantasy XIII and MGS4 on the 360 (maybe just even as multi-platform), and I might have to really reconsider my options. Perhaps the Mistwalker RPGs can will change things here. I'm also a little worried on seeing how well DVD holds up for next-gen games. It seems like almost every developer has stated their concerns on being limited to the format, and I'm just worried about what the outcome will be. For some games, multiple discs might be OK and may not affect gameplay that much. But if a large number of next-gen games will be difficult to spread of multiple discs, developer support might drop, which is something I wouldn't like of course. Maybe a year or 2 from now when developers have had enough time with Blu-ray and DVD, I can get an idea on where the situation is going and consider the possibility of getting a 360 (especially if it gets more support from Japanese developers). I'd prefer if XBL let you play online for free just so I can try out playing games online in the next 4-5 years, but it might not be that big of a deal if their service is much better than anything else out there (and thus, is worthy of a monthly/annual charge).
Wii. I probably won't bother with PS3 or 360. Not a fanboy knock on either system, I'm just at a point in my life where I can't devote much time to gaming anymore.
Considering Nintendo buys about 2 million dollars worth of equipment from me, the least I can do is to buy a Wii. BTW, the guys I've talked to that actually played with the Wii says it cooler than the videos depict. For instance, most people don't realize there is a speaker in the controller so when you do things like shoot an arrow, the thunk from the bow actually comes from the controller. As the arrow approaches the screeen, the sound gets louder from the TV.
I'll get a PS3, but not at launch. I'll probably wait at least a year, maybe two. There are still a ton of PS2 games I want to play, namely God of War II, which hasn't even come out yet, and is a PS2 game. I just picked up GTA: Liberty City Stories which, though ported from PSP to PS2, is still damn fun (and I only paid about $15 for it). I'm tempted to get a 360, if only to play Oblivion, but I doubt I'll do that. I'll definitely get a PS3. When, is the only question.
FWIW, there are strong rumors that there will be a PS3 version of Oblivion that will launch with the PS3 (along with a PSP version of Oblivion IIRC); of course, there were probably rumors just as strong about a PS2 Morrowind a couple years back, so take that with a grain of salt.
I don't think so. IIRC, they will start up Wii and PS3 preorders at the same time. I think around August and September is when they might start taking preorders. Maybe someone who works at one of those stores knows more.
Xbox 360 when Halo 3 comes out Wii for zelda and mario galaxy Ps3 for unreal championship 2007??? so I can own sony players look out for my clan xXTOFTMTXx (Take One For The Microsoft Team)
voted ps3 but will probly end up with a 360 because of Halo. I can't stand any of the Nintendo games, too old and repetitive, so I probably won't get the Wii but will consider it.
i can see how it can get old, but not so sure about repetitive. have you seen clips from mario galaxy? each mario from the franchise brought something different to the franchise. this one well... it seems to blow the others off the charts as far as creativity. i would compare playing resident evil on ps1 to mario galaxy on the wii. i simply quit playing res evil because it scared the schat out of at first. mario galaxy seems like would quit playing because the way you'd have to flying off to different planets by manuevering the controller... well... i'm scared of heights. it just looks cool. i like the wiimote... "it's so bad." the controller seems like it would throw anything "repetitive" out the window. yeah... i'm worried about only the first party games (mario, zelda, metroid, super smash bros, etc) being the only games worth playing, but those alone would make it worth it. super smash bros looks to be the ultimate party game.
Right now thinking about getting a Wii within a few months after it comes out, and maybe a year or year and a half later getting a PS3 (hopefully when the price drops. As long as the Wii has Madden I'll be okay...
The expensive prices are losing me as a customer. Wii looks exciting and unique, as well as cheap, so if I go for a system, that's what I'll get.
Like everybody else I be getting the Wii first though I feel that like Sega with the Dreamcast, Nintendo Will lose the war they don't have the same ability to add stuff the way Sony and Microsoft can. Sony's overall system is allot better though and Microsoft probably is already working on a all in one system imagine Direct TV, TEVO, Xbox next gen, a DVD player, and PC all in one box
I'm not sure if most people know this but despite the lower price, Nintendo will make a profit on each box from the get go.
