Yes, that is the question isn't it? Maybe I could call in to SR610 and discuss it with Matt and Adam and they can get things rolling. Maybe I can catch them when they have a guest like Morey, CD, or JVG. On another note, there is one problem with not giving up the #32. Simply put, we'll have too many draft picks. We're only allowed to have 15 players on the roster, and right now we have 11. If we draft 3 players, we only have room to acquire 1 guy in free agency. That doesn't give us the opportunity to work with our trade exceptions to fill out the roster with quality depth. One solution to that would be to package the #23 and #32 picks for Chicago's #16. It's good for Chicago because they don't have a second round pick this year. For us, we get the opportunity to draft another solid player at #16 that would likely be gone by #23. A few examples could be Rodney Carney, Maurice Ager, Rajon Rondo, Quincy Douby, or Sergio Rodriguez. No way in hell we take Rodriguez, simply because he's likely a project, but the kid is freaking incredible and will be one hell of a point guard someday.
thats one way of getting the message out there...its either that or bombard the toyota center w/carrier pigeons and thats an interesting point you bring up...if we did have 3 picks it might restrict our mobility...assuming chicago would buy in it sounds good. but who to pick w/the #16....
Kudos on actually putting a realistic trade out there. I dont think the nets are gonna give up 3 players for Swift though, so if we dont give up the 32 I think we would have to include someone else. Unfortunately our only other asset is Head and I dont think we should let him go at this point. What about doing this after your proposed trade. We send #8 and Juwan and maybe a trade exception for #12 and JR Smith. I heard that NOK is looking for a veteran PF in case PJ Brown wants to go to a contender. Do you think they would do it. I know they have grown tired of JR Smith and are looking to move up a bit in the draft. That would give us the 12 and 23, an athletic 2 guard, and some decent PFs. We could hope Sheldon Williams falls to 12 or maybe even draft JJ if Williams is gone. Then with 23 get a PF or James White. I think he can be a Carney type player at a much cheaper price. Then use our MLE on V-span and try to get Jay Williams who is supposedly looking very good in comparison to Marcus Williams. My bigger fear would be S. Williams not being there and we be very thin at PF. Our line up could be Yao/Deke S. Williams/Robinson/Padgett Tmac/Bogans/White JR Smith/J. Williams/ Head Alston/V-span/Sura or Yao/Deke Robinson/Alexander Johnson/Padgett Tmac/Bogans/White JR smith/Redick/Head Alston/V-Span/Sura Think this is possible?
or Yao/Deke Robinson/Alexander Johnson/Padgett Tmac/Bogans/White JR smith/Redick/Head Alston/V-Span/Sura Think this is possible?[/QUOTE] Correction. I forgot we wouldnt be able to draft James White. It could be. Yao/Deke Robinson/Alexander Johnson/Padgett Tmac/Bogans/JR Smith Head/Redick/J. Williams Alston/V-Span/Sura
That one looks the best to me, but still has holes. JR Smith is intriguing, but I don't want to rely on him to start at SG. Then, with this roster, we are very undersized at the SG. I really like the way things looks at SF, PF, and C though. That said, I don't think it would happen. I doubt New Orleans would trade within the division, and word on the street is that they want to move up for Shelden, so he wouldn't be there for us anyway. I also disagree that the Nets wouldn't give up 3 players for Swift. Cliff is not their answer at PF and Padgett couldn't even get off the bench. Those guys plus the #23 aren't too much to give up for a starting caliber power forward, in my opinion.
I would agree if Swift did anything last year to make himself more valuable. My thought is most of us would be glad to trade Swift for the 23 pick straight up. So even though NJ doesnt need Robinson or Padgett doesnt mean they just throw them away cuz if they are last year contract players they could be worth something later.
At least in Robinson's case, I don't think they were going to keep in on the roster anyway. He's got a team option, so I think the only reason they'd exercise it is if they were going to do a trade in the offseason.
I like this idea as well. I have a somewhat similar but more complicated deal on the Rockets forum. Check it out and see what you think.
After Bowen exercises his option, then how about Bowen for Padgett? If the rumor is that NJ is just going to cut Padgett, then this trade would save both teams money. We would probably need to use a trade exception to do it.
I've been hoping we select James White in the second, too. He's a great slasher and defender and would be a nice player to pair up with Tmac. James White
