The Chronicle also said this: http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/bb/6993736.html Lee, 33, is due to make $18.5 this season and again in 2011 and 2012. He has a full no-trade clause this year and a limited trade clause in 2011. Lee’s 10-and-5 rights (10 years in the majors and five with his current club) kick in for the 2012 season, allowing him to veto over any trade.
As it was related to me, Fallas talked to the Stros in the month b/t writing those 2 articles and they informed him that the contract supercedes his 10-5 rights, for the reasons I mentioned. I've got an email out to him asking for clarification, I'll pass any reply along.
Nice! That would be incredibly helpful if Carlos Lee has no leverage after this year. Not that we could find a buyer right now, but it does give us some options if he comes back to life next year and/or the year after.
