I really don't understand our FO. If our philosophy is so predicated on shooting so many 3's. How come we never invested in bringing in accurate sharp shooters? I really don't get it..

This has been said many times, but you're right. I'm a Morey fan, but he really needs to start valuing players that fit the philosophy he has. Team relies far too much on 3's for such a dearth of talent in that area.

The idea is that you can turn average 3 pt shooters into effective scorers. having a slew of above average and elite 3 pt shots like gs is one thing but it does beg the question why haven't they acquired a dead eye 3 pt shooter when they're messing around with no eye shots like Brewer and smith.

Trying to make sense of why Morey never brought in dead-eye/great/good 3pt shooters is like trying to understand John Brewer Bickerstaff's rotations. ;)

Our philosophy is based on efficiency. You should actually look at offensive efficiency under Morey and understand the math behind 3 pointers.

It's naïve to think Morey wouldn't assemble a lineup of elite 3&D to surround Harden but those players are in short supply.

It's like one would have to understand math and scarcity. Some folks just need to stick to reporting. ;)

I said this a million time to the stat-only crowd, and they always evade the question.

Doug Collins hammered it home yesterday....it is absolutely insane to run the most 3pt reliant offense in league history while being close to last in %. It doesn't fit the personnel, no either get the personnel (christ how long has Morey had?), or do something else.

It is absolutely illogical to run after inefficient stars like Melo when you should be spending more time on shooting specialists.

Going after the Melos is a priority over 3pt shooters while running an offense that is pretty much just chuck 3s.

I'm for the 3 philosophy btw, you can't succeed without being a very good 3pt shooting team, but for that you need 3pt shooters.

How the hell have we had our offensive rank in PPG and efficiency favorably under Morey?

Seems you are missing a few things.

I agree. Morey ball and Rocket's offensive philosophy is rooted in taking 3s. We don't even have a single pure 3 point shooter on this team save Jason Terry. That's why this team is broken to the roots and spirit.

Come back to me with the stats vs good/decent defensive teams and specifically in the 4th quarter. You and most of the other people on here lack a basic understanding of the game and hence don't even apply your stats correctly. You're basically looking at the mean, a culmination of the rockets beating up on bottom feeders and bridging the gap vs bad teams once they've been blown out, or playing really well until teams tighten the clamps later in the game and cause them to collapse. This is so blatantly obvious it doesn't deserve mention. Teams know the rockets are a one trick pony, there is a reason that the same squad from last year has performed much much worse, (and don't blame it on Dwight, he was out for most of last year). Besides misinforming other people, step back and don't let yourself be misinformed when you preconceived bias stems from "Morey orchestrated the offense and he would never allow it to be bad because he said so.."

It's rooted in taking the most efficient shots. You have to shoot a high % 2 pointer to equal a mediocre 3 pt shoot.

Our team is broken because our players haven't bought into anything on each end of the floor. Offensively, we just need to make that extra pass and have our guys moving. Defensively, we just need effort and communication. However, it's time for a major overhaul as our coaching staff and players had essentially 2-3 years to make it work.

the decisions of this team and specifically bickestaff, really can inflate your ego. I kind of believe I could make better basketball decisions than a pro nba head coach. It's not good but Jesus Christ jb wtf.

I think a balance is needed. You can survive having 2-3 underwhelming shooters, as long as they contribute elsewhere and you compliment them with 2-3 legit shooting specialists. The problem for us is we went all in on the former, and completely ignored the latter. A guy like Trevor Ariza can't be your best and most consistent 3 point shooter.

Or maybe its because they aren't good 3pt shooters FFS. How are you so dense?!?!

You're not entirely wrong, they do need to make the extra pass (wonder how thats so much harder with Harden on the floor?), but that doesn't fix their 3 issue, a lot of which happen on open looks.

I agree. So when you already have stars in Howard and Harden, no excuse to not go after shooting specialists.

FattymcCFatFat was so deluded with his big 3 or bust philosophy he went full stupid.

.... all you need to do is outscore your opposing team you are trying too hard to make it complicated. I'm not misinforming anyone when anyone can look at our offensive efficiency.

I'm not sure what the hell the bolded means.
