Yeah, but then Sean Bell and his dumb black friends started talking about "getting their guns and killing dumb white b****(es)," then disobeying police orders and ramming police vans; and by then the cops were more concerned about getting killed than prostitution.

 

throwing out crime stats still doesn't make an argument because criminals are still a small part of the population. secondly, the cops have greater responsibility to act professionally than the average citizen

Well said. It may not have been premeditated murder, but it was an enormously stupid move by the police. Stupid enough to be criminal.

Right, but I'm just working with the circumstances. The cops think they overhear that. They have reason to believe at that point a gun fight is about to occur. You expect them to sit idly while it happens?

Once they go to pursue, they have no way of knowing whether the suspects have guns or were just joking or blowing smoke.

It's a terrible tragedy what happened, and I'm not absolving anyone of blame. One thing that I am sure about though, is you shouldn't blow smoke about getting guns and shooting someone. To me, this seems like an unfortunate chain reaction that began with some misguided words and ended with some cops killing a man that didn't deserve to die.

It just doesn't seem criminal to me, but I think they should definitely be held financially liable.
