Position themselves better than most teams, yes they do. If you are comparing them to only one of the best rebounding teams out there, yes, then they must be pretty good. You act like the Rockets are rebounding like the Lakers this year. Results are results. It's just three games, but we are rebounding on the weak side much better than last year (sans Omer/Dwight frontline) and that improvement on our weakness is what is giving us a +17 edge on rebounding. This is a good thing there Joe-Joe, no matter how you spin it.

That's because our offensive rebounding has been very good. Our current rate would have been second last season.

The rebound percentages are right there on the same pages you linked to. Just because you can't sort them doesn't mean you can't use them. They are far more important than raw totals and differentials.

.Also, our opponents are missing 12 shots per game more than the Rockets. This is going to lead to a lot more total rebounds for the Rockets.

Another problem with these rebounding stats: The Rockets and their opponents are combining for 94 missed shots per game, but the total number of rebounds on the stat pages is 82. There are 12 "team rebounds" per game that are not accounted for in these stats. Those are ball that are tipped out of bounds after a miss, or shots at the ends of quarters, where no particular player gets the rebound.

To me the best thing that has happened this year has not been individual performance ( outside of maybe harden) but how the team is playing stylistically. We seem to actually have a philosophy that we try to execute throughout the game vs last year.

Yes, the offense still plays a bit like a chicken with its head cut off, but there has been real, REAL improvement in playing inside-out basketball this year. Harden creates mainly by driving and it seems like he has settled for less jumpers so far.

Howard, despite not having any truly dominant games has been awesome. The last game he had 4 assists from kicking the ball out in the post. D-mo also had 2 assists that i think were gained in the same way. There were some beautiful posts and re-posts that resulted in easy scores for Dwight.

This year we are truly learning how to play through Howard more and there seems to be more off-ball movement.

I think with how Jones and D-mo have played you have to give them at least half the season before making a judgement on if they can be players on a playoff contender. With Harden looking like an MVP , if Howard regains his playoff form you can absolutely win a title with only 2 superstars if those players are both truly dominant.

The bench seems to have some pieces in Papa and then Terry/cannan who will be able to provide inconsistent play..... maybe as the season goes on they become more consistent.

I think a rotation of Bev, James, Ariza, Jones, Howard, Dmo , Papa has the potential to be scary . We need 1-2 more players to become consistent role players to really content outside of James and Dwight dominating every night. Ideally that player is a guard ... maybe Canaan becomes consistent and can help out. Maybe terry manages to stay healthy and has something left in the tank.

If things go right and young players improve ... ie Jones, Dmo, Papa, Canaan ... then we are in a great position.

That being said ... 3 game sample size and we are fairly shallow so an injury to Dwight or James kills us.

Love what I'm seeing. Better team so far. Many improvements. A lot of it started with posting Dwight in the Portland series. Still concerned that when we run into the taller, faster, more athletic ballers we'll struggle with Jones, Harden, and Beverly not being able to match up defensively, and then we loose a little on the offensive end too. That's when we have trouble closing. I'd like to see how we handle those teams, OKC and Portland, and of course the Clippers being quite good too.

My posts have solely been about Rockets rebounding versus the Pellies rebounding. You've made 1 post that implied the Rockets rebounded better than the Pellies and another that directly stated that the Rockets positioned themselves better than the Pellies. I am not trying to spin anything unless you consider that I say the Pellies are a better rebounding team (even on defense, but superior on offense) than the Rockets spin. My posts have done nothing to imply the Rockets rebound like the Lakers or how the Rockets compare in rebounding to any team other than the Pellies.

The Rockets are a better team than the Pellies in a number of ways. I'm just not going to say the Rockets rebound better than them.
