Kareem, then Lew Alcindor, boycotted the 1968 Summer Olympics, protesting the unequal treatment of African-Americans in the United States.

He was retired before pros became eligible.

The wrong answer that most people give for this question is Oscar Robinson.

He won an NBA title, two high school titles (and as a sophomore he lost in the finals to the real "Hoosiers" team the movie was about, the 1954 Milan Indians), Olympic Gold in 1960,

but at the University of Cincinnati his teams lost twice in the final four. UC won back-to-back national titles in 1961 and 1962, the two years right after he graduated.

The obvious one is Magic.
I think Bill Russell also qualifies.

I dunno who the other one is.

Bird lost to Magic in the NCAA championship.
DRob lost in the final 4 I think - so he's out.
I've never heard anything about MJ's highschool team winning a championship - so that's out.

We might need another judgement call from pacertom.

I think maybe technically Bill Russell might count.

California historically has not had a State championship. Only recently (since the '80s) has basketball had one. Each section of the state had/has there own.

Here's the state championship history -- with a big gap for the men's. http://www.cifstate.org/images/Basketball/State_Basketball_Records_through_2012_FINAL.pdf

Bill Russell did win his "League Championship" at McClymonds in West Oakland. That's easy to look up here. Frank Robinson (yes, that Frank Robinson) was his teammate, so I can't imagine them getting beat.

So, question is: was the "League Championship" the highest title in the section of the California at that time

replace winning multiple NCAA championships with GMing multiple NBA championships, then Mr. Clutch would be the only one

btw: Carlos Boozer has a real good shot at joining this select group.

Had Derrick Rose not gotten injured he could be on his way right now to the final piece.

I sympathize with the Bill Russell story. Unless they were undefeated / unbeatable, you can't really assume they would have won a state championship if it had existed.

The guy who was almost there was Sam Perkins. His high school team in New York was undefeated and thought to be unbeatable, but they lost. He won the rest- Olympics, NCAA, NBA.

But it's Bill Russell (Bill Russell) and Frank Robinson on the same team ... might very well have been undefeated.

Sucks he won the highest title he could, but California didn't have a state championship until the '80s.
