Don't try bringing any sort of logic into this. It's obvious that the US will lose 5-2.

If you overlook any player/team you're setting yourself up for a loss. Any team can beat any other team, but I'd still put my money on the US tomorrow.

That actually sounds kinda racist. I dont owe anything to anyone but my parents.Whos worked their asses off for minimum wage for years to raise their son. I dont want this board to come down to a racial debate, but its easier seeing it from the outside than from the inside, so i wont waste my time explaining the differences. Honestly, i dont even know why i am responding to this. But I dont understand why you would have to root for the country you live in, i know tons of americans that would preffer european teams to beat the american anytime.

Coming from Mexico, I would LOVE to root for the U.S. Here are my top reasons why I don't:

#1 - In 1990, the U.S. gets to go to the World Cup after a 40-year hiatus, with more than 8 players from different countries "nationalized" as American. The United States manages only 2 goals in 3 losses in the first round.
#2 - In 1994, qualifies for "free" as host
#3 - In 2002, beats my country in the round of 16.
#4 - Americans in the U.S. believe that the U.S. of A. will win it all in 2012. I laugh.

"Nope, I'm sure of it. I Hate 'em" - name the movie.

That is what makes it all the more American. You've heard of the Melting Pot? Oh, and where exactly was Mexico in 1990? That's right, they got busted for cheating.

Do you honestly believe they wouldn't have qualified anyway? They did get to the 2nd round that year and played a very good game against Brazil in the 2nd round. If Leonardo doesn't break Tab Ramos' skull, it could have turned out differently.

Don't really need to add anything here.

There is/was a plan in place by the USSF called Project 2010. It couldn't be 2012 because there won't be a World Cup in 2012. The plan had to do with putting in place youth programs that would further the success of the national team and put us in contention to potentially win a World Cup. I'd say it's working.

Where in his post did he mention race? God, people that read racism into everything are so ignorant. I don't blame you though, you've been trained to think that way by the left wing political correct media.

I honestly do NOT think so. Really? What about a freebie from Escobar in the Colombia game? Did that NOT have anything to do with it?
    Sorry. You're right. I meant 2010.
Sure. I'd like to order a young Ghanan striker for 2010 born in 1989. It's a repeat of 1990.

And remove the lemmings and sugar stuff from your signature!!!!! I'm getting PISSED!!!! :D

Racist? Not so much. I've spent a good bit of time living and working in Mexico, and I like the country and its people a lot. I think part of the reason that so many Mexican-Americans cheer for Mexico over the US is that there are so many 1st generation Mexican-Americans here. They're still going through the process of acclimating. That supports Slowly's claim about if I moved to Utah, I'd still cheer for the Rockets. I understand his point of view. I've never seen any white people cheering for some Euro team to beat the US, but then again I'm not a big soccer fan by any stretch. Most whites here are 4th and 5th generation, if not much more, so they identify less with wherever their ancestors came from, if they even know. Over time I suspect this will happen to what is now the hispanic community in the US, as well.

One of my best friends is a Mexican-American lawyer in Houston, and he fiercely roots for Mexico, and I suspect that he roots against the US no matter who they play. I've never really understood this. He loves Mexico so much, but would never even consider moving back there.

EDIT: To address your point about not owing anything to the US, I think you're quite wrong. Of course your parents should take credit for working hard for many years to provide for their family. I'm not disputing that. The point is, though, that in many countries hard work is not enough to make a decent living. In this country, thanks to the system and economic structure that is in place, most of the time it is, especially when supplemented by education.

That was in the World Cup. Doesn't have anything to do with qualifying. The US beat Columbia. They outplayed them that day for 90 minutes. The fact that the winning goal was an own goal is irrelevent.

I can't think of any names, but I do happen to remember some that have played for the Mexican National Team that weren't born in Mexico. What are we supposed to tell Freddie Adu? "Sorry kid, you can't play for us even though the rules say you can, you became a citizen, and you got your high school degree at 14." What is wrong with using naturalized citizens? Mexico does it. England has done it. Germany does it. Every country save Brazil has done it.

No offense...deal with it. I removed the other part.

Dude, if the U.S. couldn't score, and a Colombian player scored one for them, that's not relevant? Please.
The problem is that the WHOLE FREAKIN' TEAM was from outside the country, dude, you know what I mean. (I will help you with the names: )I am not talking about when Caballero played for Mexico last World Cup (Argentinian), or when Siña (Naelson - Brazilian naturalized Mexican) played for Mexico... I am talking about the whole FREAKIN' TEAM or at least HALF of the total players. Even Claudio Reyna is not from here, and neither was Sanneh... the whole team back then was FAKE AMERICAN. How about BORN here?
Still, your signature should be clean of garbage, and off with the rest of the non-soccer-related lemmings and sugar stuff. C'mon, man... accept it... CHANGE THE WHOLE THING. YOU LOST FAIR AND SQUARE. (jk)

bigtexxx, first of all, please spell my nick right: SwoLy-D, please. I won't leave any of YOUR x's out. ;) I am MEXICAN, born in Mexico, cheering for the country where I was born. If Katy had a team, I'd cheer for IT against Houston. I can't cheer for the U.S. because my mother country comes before the land which gave me opportunity, but there is no connection to a FAKE team as I stated above. If my kids decide to cheer for the U.S., power to them. They are American Citizens born here, and so it's their FULL RIGHT to cheer for U.S. I always cheer FOR the U.S., except when playing MEXICO...

As a matter of fact, and without needing another thread, I will cheer against Guatemala tomorrow night. I actually want U.S.A. to go to the WC again.

LeRoy420, double or nothing? :D What do you say? Maybe you can remove your FAKE signature before September 3rd? ;)

What i wanna know is what does it matter where you come from to make your life better have to do with your national teams support?

I was born here in the States but still root for my national team when they play. Even against the US i cheered on my team...

That doesn't mean i am not gratefull for being here and all this other stuff....They have nothing to do with each other.

In your words Bigtexx your saying someone who comes from LA to Houston has to switch and have loyalty to the Rockets?

That's not going to happen and they shouldn't even play a part in this discussion to be honest with you....

I'm just curious about some of the rabid anti-american cheering I've seen during some of these Mexico-US games (my own experiences in real life, not necessarily bbs "people"). I didn't understand how somebody could be so opposed to a country they live in and have prospered in. I would think there would be some liking due to that fact. That's why I find it interesting. I'm not trying to tell people who to root for. Cheer for whoever the heck you want. I'm just curious about it.

Well at the same time i don't think those people in the stadium are coming to the US anytime soon. Maybe 1% of them if anything might come down to live here and stuff.

Unfortunatly it's not just a Mexico vs US thing if you watch soccer you have people that live in the same country that hate each other and they are just a couple cities away in the same country...it's probably one of the most heated sporting events and it does get nasty.

I think everyone doesn't like something about the country they are in whether it is Mexico, the US, or anywhere else..i hate certain things here but love others...i mean it's just part of life in a way and i don't think there is a real explination to a lot of things.

I'm having trouble finding these 8 players on the squad.

Tony Meola- born in New Jersey
    Kasey Keller- Washington
    David Vanole- California
    John Doyle- Oklahoma
    Jimmy Banks- Chicago
    John Stollmeyer-Pittsburgh
    Marcelo Balboa- California
    Chris Henderson-California
    Steve Trittschuh- Indianapolis
    John Harkes- New Jersey
    Mike Windischmann - New York
    Tab Ramos- Uruguay
    Paul Caligiuri - California
    Eric Eichmann- Miami
    Peter Vermes- Philadelphia
    Eric Wynalda- California
    Bruce Murray- Washington

That's 17 of the 22 man squad and only 1 of them was born outside the US. Here's the players I couldn't find birthplaces, but your number of at least 8 is clearly wrong:

    Brian Bliss
    Desmond Armstrong
    Paul Krumpe
    Neil Covone
    Chris Sullivan

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that Bliss, Armstrong, and Sullivan were all born in the US.
