see the thing is, pac is timeless, he doesnt sound dated, most of his songs are classics

    honorable mentions:
    mobb deep - shook ones
    nas - one mic
    jay z - h to the izzo
    jay z - song cry
    pac - bonnie and clyde
    talib - get by

not doing justice to the countless artists that have released timeless peices.

i love hip hop. hip hop is still alive guys.

I don't get the Jay-Z hate. Anyone that even remotely likes rap knows that Resonable Doubt (which can go pound for pound with any Tupac record) and Blueprint are two of the best rap CD's ever released. Nas had his swansongs too with Illmatic and Stillmatic. Nevertheless...

Pac was awesome. Changes is still my fave. Wish him and B.I.G. didn't have to go, rap would be very different.

"Reasonable Doubt" is one I will give him but "The Blueprint" was overrated. Like I said, he is good but I think he is considered great because there has been nobody during this era that could be better but that is not saying much.

I love Jay-Z, and I think Pac is fun to listen to... but nobody, and I mean NOBODY, has or ever will put out an album that can compare to NAS first album illmatic. Each and every song is legendary. Jay-Z is much more celebrated because of the marketing and promotion that NAS never cared much for. I respect Pac, but Nas will always be number one to me.

i dont hate Jay Z, I own some of is albums. its that he rose to the top because BIG and Pac were both gone. Plus he's always talking about himself. Tupac had more substance than that.

Imagine if Pac was still alive, not only would he sell more albums and he probably would get Beyonce too!

I don't get where you get this Jay only talks about him self thing...sure, he does...but so does every other rapper, even Pac. He tackles issues, and does so with a consistent flow and lyricism that I believe are matched only by Tupac(Probably other people with arguments also). My point isn't to compare the two, though it's not as ridiculous as you guys are making it out to be. My point is that Jay-Z is widely considered a top 5 rapper, and this would be true regardless of time period. Two classic albums and three near-classics...his catalog matches up with anyone's.

I love Tupac. I think all Eyez on me is the greatest album ever. I still have the CD I bought back in 1995 when it first came out. With that being said, I cannont name 1 single Jay-Z song that I like. I have never bought a Jay Z CD or even downloaded one of his songs. I don't like his music. His lyrics are below average, IMO.

Only classic album was Reasonable Doubt. The others were good and his last two (American Gangster, Kingdom Come) sucked ass. Oh yeah, there is no such thing as a near-classic. It's either classic or its not.

I think Jay is a great rapper. But he is over rated. I was surprised some people here felt the say way I did. On other sites, folks treat Jay-Z like hes god. I'm serious, dudes worship him. Listen to some Pac and then listen to some Jay-Z. You can feel how powerful Pac's music is. I don't have the same feeling with I jam Jay-Z. Sure it makes me bob my head but thats how far it goes. When you listen to 2Pac, you connect with 2Pac.

This isn't worth arguing, because I'll never agree with anyone that doesn't consider Blueprint a classic album. No such thing as a near-classic? It's not like I'm using some official classic rating system...A near-classic does exist, and it is simply an album that is not quite good enough to be considered with the classics. And I'm definitely not alone in using this terminology.

As for the connection...different tastes. Tupac had a very in your face style...his voice and tone are very conducive for deep emotional connections. Jay-Z's style is much more laid back.

And if you thought American Gangster sucked ass, you haven't listened to it enough(Or at all).
