Semi-dirty play by Horry. He leaned into a pick when a guy's back was turned to him. I don't like it. But oh well.
the most amazing stat of the night. all 5 hornet starters had 6 rebounds each. what are the odds of that?
Nice pick by Horry. If David West can't handle a pick then maybe he should go to the WNBA. Go Spurs. The NBA deserves better than to see a team full of hothead crybabies advance to the WCF.
Completely agree, it was a normal hard screen that would not even be a foul if the players wasn´t West and wasn´t injured, if a player in your team is not able to handle that kind of hard but upon rules game then as a coach you have to sit him down, and even more when you are down 20 with 5 to go.
That was pretty borderline from Horry. He sets himself and leans into West - just about when he's in the air. But then again what can you expect from a team that has Bowen on it.
If guys think Horry's pick was dirty play, then they should re-watch Game 5 how Chandler set a pick on Parker. Same kind of pick with Parker running backward to Chandler at the top of the key. Chandler didnt move his feet but he leaned forward and pushed out his forearms and nailed his forearms on Parker's back. Parker was down for a while but Parker didnt have a bad back. Chandler got called for an offensive foul. But Reggie Miller screamed out loud and said that shouldnt be an offensive foul. Every forward and center set those picks on blind side all the time, just to knock down people. If you have a bad back, that's too bad.
So the refs call it WWF style, the players do try to hurt one another, Mad Max and Artest aren't so mad, and Danny Fortson stepping on Yao's foot deliberately er accidentally is just the way it goes. And as the saying goes - you can have as much justice in America as you can afford. Les get out your checkbook.
a hard lessson from an old school. shame on me, but i actually liked it. and i've also been long "sick and tired of seeing D. West and his fake tough guy mean mug".
I hate how David West screams "And 1!" EVERY SINGLE TIME he shoots the ball anywhere near the basket. It's annoying.
bowen can be dirty. we all know that. but last year that hit by horry to nash was just a typical basketball move to stop the clock. totally clean. yes it was a hard hit, maybe even harder than normal. but if you consider nash was running away full speed like a cat, horry did what he was supposed to. same thing last night. there was no elbows (ala boozer) or nothing in that pick.
I personally don't think it was that bad, but the question is for those that did not think the play was malicious, would you feel the same if that was yao or tmac going down in pain? I sense a little bias against the hornets in this thread for some reason.
I was thinking of what would happen if this had been done to McGrady and I honestly believe I would more disappointed in having a frail player than I would be mad at someone who set a legal pick. You can watch any game and see the same kind of pick set half dozen times a game. West just happens to be Kenyon Martin tough. I won't lie about my dislike for the Hornets. As a few have mentioned, they whine, cry, mean mug and throw tantrums worse than any team should. Paul and West disgust me. It's a shame two of the best young players in the league act this way. Being a legit bad or tough guy is one thing. Walking around the court like you're about to fight all the time but then crying when someone gets physical with you is about the worst thing a man can do IMO. Even if West is back and healthy the Hornets are done. The Spurs are in their heads now. Look for a nasty flagrant foul from the Hornets in the final minutes of the game if they know they are about to be eliminated.
I've read about how people try to say "Well what if it was a pick up game, and you're injured and someone made that kind of pick on you?" Well, for starters, if I was that injured I probably wouldn't even get back in the game. It's a pick up game for God's sake. But lets just say I decided to pull a David West and played with pain and someone set a pick like that on me. Of course it would hurt like a b**** but in my mind I would say "Damn..that was a goodass pick" "Well what if it was McGrady or Yao that got picked off like that?" I'd be mad, but IT. WAS. A. CLEAN. PICK. Did Horry put a little more than needed into the pick? Yea but if you're not going to be ready to set a good pick that gets your teammate open, you're better off riding pine. I don't mean to go out there and take off West's back, but you know that if Horry didn't set a hard pick and do it half-ass, more than likely it would have been called an offensive foul.
Dont be hypocrites. This board celebrated not too long ago about the hard picks that Yao set on small guards. Now, some are whinning for a legal pick because of whatever reasons. LOL!
A hip check is not a typical basketball move. If you think what Horry did to Nash is totally clean, then I gather your ok with everything the Utah Jazz do.
Chris Paul is dirtier than Horry and Bowen, so I don't like how the Hornets are trying to gather so much sympathy on Horry's pick. Just play the game.
Just looks like a nice hard foul that just happened to result in an injury unlike the hip-check on Nash. I doubt Horry pushed just to aggravate an injury. Bruce "Ankle Breaker" Bowen is 100x worse.
