It's sad. Like him or not, you have to agree that Amare is a talent. I don't see him ever be the same Amare Stoudemire we saw in the playoff last year.
I didn't see anyone in this thread overly joyful or 'take pride' in the news. I for one did say it's sad to hear the news. But if the same unfortunate situation happens to Yao, I wonder what the idiots on the Suns board would say. We would probably see threads with the titles like 'Yao Bao Dao Don is done', 'The Dynasty: Brokenknee Yao and Brokenback Tmac' or something like that on their board. That's what I call 'amazingly low'. I know it because I read what they have said about Tmac's back injury.
It's really not surprising - it's very common for players who have outstanding run-and-jump abilities compared to their weight to break down. Look at Antonio Mcdyess. Look at Shaq. Look at Penny. Even Jordan wouldn't have played as long as he did if he didn't have that 2 year break. Frankly, I'm worried about LeBron because of all of the weight that he is carrying. Sure, it helps his dominance now, but playing 82 games a year at that weight from age 18 is going to wear him down sooner or later.
what goes around comes around. i still remember him laughing his ass off when yao got crossed over. now both of his knees are jacked up.
Amare's extension will kick in next year. So between him, Marion, and Nash they are over the cap until 2009.
These 3 will cost about 40 million/year. I am more interested in the salary situation of some of their role players and when their contracts will be due. Suns have been great at signing (stealing) the right players at bargain prices (the right players for their system). Amare's knees will be a huge blow, but probably not to the point of ruining their franchise.
I laughed when Yao got crossed up - heck even Yao ended up laughing about it so I hope his knees will be ok. It's a little extreme to say that Amare somehow deserves this because he laughed at something was truly funny. Amare is great for the league I feel bad that he might not be the same player, you should too.
Don't they have first round picks obtained from the Hawks and Knicks, I imagine some of them are protected but they are not hurting even with an Amare with diminished skills. If they draft well and pick talent like they have been they might not need Amare to be the dominant big man he was going to be.
oh dont you know laughing at someone is a great reason to get injured and your livelihood taken away.
I think this is what happened. Yao got crossed up, Amare started laughing like a maniac, he jerked his body so hard in laughter that he ruined his knees...
It's truly sad to see such a young great talent not come to fruition because of injuries, I don't care whom it is or what team they play for. This also kind of keeps things in perspective: every great talent in this league is one injury away from depriving us of greatness for years and years to come, which is tragic for someone such as myself who truly appreciates the players we're lucky to watch perform night-in and night-out in the NBA. We have had McDyess, Penny, Hill, may be Amare and may be even McGrady (crossing fingers for that not to be the case)...it has been a rough ride for some potentially great players in this league.
This is why guys like Aldridge should go pro as soon as they can because otherwise one unlucky fall and it's all over.
suns should try to trade amare this summer. look at how good they are even without him, why not try to unload that max deal now? it'd be hard to find takers, sure, but im sure theres somebody out there willing to take a chance. maybe they can net a solid young player as a throw in like they did with joe johnson/boston and boris diaw/atlanta. that being said, i do feel bad. watching the playoffs last year, amare was on another level. he was incredibly fun to watch, and this will be quite the loss if he doesn't come back the same player.
This might be a blessing in disguise to allow his other knee to heal completely. There are no guarantees that his knees will wear out in the future. For all we know, it could be genetic.
