Well if Lin beats out Paul then that means the fans get what they want right? Haha! That'll show them. Hey Chinese people, democracy and voting is really the best system... unless of course you vote for someone I don't want Actually from what I've seen, they aren't LOFs but rather trolls. They pretend to be LOFs and post outlandish things to upset people. So just don't fall for it.
I have no problem with your opinion. I just don't understand why for the fans that feel the NBA all star game should be for players that "deserve" (at least to some degree) stat wise, considered haters. I don't think any of them want to see Lin fail and don't support him. Their views of the ASG is just different that's all.
They should not change the rule as its always been most votes by fans...he more popular it is what it is ....
Social Media has definitely changed the way players are hyped. Youtube and Twitter has given players another platform to promote themselves as well. Ricky Rubio came in 3rd among guards last year among guards in All-star votes, beating out Westbrook, Steve Nash, and Tony Parker but all three ended up getting in as reserves.
I wanted to avoid this thread, but this statment is odd, please tell me why Laettner didn't deserve to make the dream team? He was the unanimous best college player at the time.
Part of it is because an influx of posters came in here during the Yao era that was pretty ignorant to basketball and our culture in general. All they cared about was how Yao was doing. When Yao retired, it was definitely quieter around here.
hmm, I don't think I called out all those who consider Lin not deserve ASB starter as haters. I agree that's just different opinion, and I respect that, as long as they also respect other people's opinion. That said, there are plenty of other post which is ridiculous, such as this.
There's a total of 7 players that can be selected by coaches as reserves, since combined with the starters make a regular 12. Last year with the Center position still in tact, they had to choose at least one center, two forwards, two guards, and two players regardless of position. So most likely at least 3 guards make it with Harden being a sure lock. Not to mention, additional players could get the invite if one of the players does not play due to injury.
You're kidding right? Rubio is NOT even close to being the top favorite athlete in Spain. Soccer stars and Tennis stars are way more popular. Rubio has a flashy game, and is more popular here in the states.
Everyone who thinks the All star game is anything BUT a popularity check needs a reality check. It wouldn't matter if Lin gets in the all star game or not, its based on popularity not production. Who here remembers Tmac and Yao getting in while still not either playing at all or playing up to par. Its a game where the FANS get to choose who starts then the coaches around the league pick the bench players.
I think that would happen more in the future, with current social media, twitter, and NBA LP on broad band, you don't really have to follow local team, and it is pretty easy to root for a remote team too. I guess there will be more player only fans move with their players from team to team in the future. Anyway, it is a New Age.
I don't think I remember any player dropping out for that reason. T-Mac had a had some personal issues going on but still showed up. Heck even Magic Johnson, who had already retired, was voted in and played. BJ Armstrong got voted in as a starter in 1994, finishing with an average of 14 points, 3.8 assists, and 1 spg that season. Vince Carter just gave up his starting position to Michael Jordan. Players like Yao and Grant Hill didn't play due to injury.
Not all Chinese people vote for him. As i know, a lot of Chinese people hate Lin so much. And just because he isn't Chinese... they even argue about he can't speak Chinese well...on the other hand, they still think Asian can't play basketball at nba level....This is very contradictory...The other kind of racism.
Thanks, so supposing the starters end up being Kobe, Lin, Howard, Griffin, and Durant, the remaining 7 slots would be: Chris Paul Russell Westbrook Tim Duncan Zach Randolph Blake Griffin James Harden Tony Parker (?) Steph Curry (?) Marc Gasol (?) David Lee (?) Kevin Love (?) LaMarcus Aldridge (?) Nicholas Batum (?) There are a lot of players who are deserving, and its not completely out of the realm of possibility that Harden could be pushed out. Scary thought.
