Its like that on every 2k game though, especially if you up the difficulty. I think its actually there to make the game more of a simulation. Sometimes, no matter how hard you try someone will score on you. If they had made it were it was more difficult people could just pick teams with lanky players and switch to manually guard each time the ball is passed. That would mean that every shot would be properly contested and the opposing team would shoot a terrible percentage. That's not realistic either.
i beat Griz last night on last second at HOF level with 5 mins quarter. i was up by 15 points once. but they caught up in last quarter with their 3pts and fastbreaks. i was lucky that t-mac hit the buzzer beater. i was abused by their pick & roll. gay had several alley opp dunks
Umm you can still do alley-oops. Alley-oops don't happen that often in games. They made it this year to where you had to be the right positions and a open lane. This isn't NBA Jam. Pick and roll dunks? I hated those. All somebody would do if pick and roll, pass it off and get the easy two. Talk about being cheesy and cheap. Guys would do that all game, I hated that! It takes no skill at all. If you can't appreciate the adaptive AI in the game, then you are playing the wrong game. In 2k8, unless you ran a play fully, players would just stand around. In 2K9, they cut, set picks, pop out, ect. Anything you would do on a basketball court, you can do here. Try watching the AI move off ball for once instead of trying to get in the paint for every single shot. I will agree that FG percentages are a bit high. Although, if you play on Hall of Fame, its toned down and harder to score. Those are easily fixed with sliders, which you can now download. Also, you need to play good defense. A hand in Kobe's face isn't going to stop him, not even the hand of Artest. You would have to jump and contest the shot. BUT, a big man superstar like Yao or Dwight is damn near impossible to stop one on one in the paint. Anyways, I find it hilarious that the OP started this thread b****ing how he can't cheese anymore. Makes me love this game even more! It's still possible to cheese (played a couple guys online), but hearing a cheeser complaining about how he can't play cheap anymore is a symphony to my ears.
It took little skill to do my one-trick-pony leg sweep with Ryu in Street Fighter II, but I still beat most comers.
Will the AI typically take advantage of numbers on the fast break? I know in a lot of previous games (don't recall if its 2K and/or Live) that the computer will often pull up or take a silly midrange jumper when there's a wide open lane to the basket. That type of stuff maybe annoyed me more than anything else.
I played it last night and got burned on d, but I was used to the old controls, now its different, and turbo is on the other side now... But yea I played the clippers and got torched by Baron. at halftime i was down 42-24 lol... But i caught up somewhat, still lost though, 81-90. I need to work perimeter d and setting plays and Il be good. Did anyone else miss like 20 layups though?
Yes, the AI is so smart this year that I've had more fun playing against CPU than online. They take advantage of everything you give them. Especially mismatches. I was Yao and got stuck on OJ Mayo, Grizz clear out and Mayo burns right by Yao for the reverse layup. If you leave a man open, they'll find him. They will double guys who are shooting hot. The AI gives the ball to their stars at the right time. I remember playing against the Bulls and Gordon was quiet all game. Come 4th quarter, Bulls kept feeding him the ball and he would deliver. Man, its as real as it gets in 2K9.
2k9 is the best basketball game ever made. The problem is, it's extremely hardcore and has a much higher learning curve than any basketball game in the past. There are almost too many specific and different offensive moves that require you to learn exact inputs. The original poster is wrong; you can do all you could do in 2k8 and more. The AI is so sick. If you switch, they will abuse the post with their big man on your smaller player. Or they will get their smaller guy to blow by you the minute you leave a lane. If you don't double team their star, they will kill you 1on1. If you do double team their star, he will usually find the open man. Just like real basketball. The frustration so many people are having? It takes a lot more learning time, and a lot more micromanagement than most people are used to for a basketball game.
does anyone know when the online games will be fixed it was terrible last night. 5-5 when its working properly its prett fun!
I found two codes for NBA 2k9. I havent tried them myself b/c I'm at work, but i figured I'd share.... ------------------------------------------------- Found this in a forum: I tried "2ksports" and it worked for the 2K team like in previous years. Also "payrespect" for the ABA ball also works. ------------------------------------------------- As far as the online goes, yes it has been horrible, and I would love an explanation as to when 2k thinks there servers will be fixed, and up and running smoothly!!!
