Amazing story...I believe in Miracles...Makes you cherish everyday we have... btw, what national chain is it? It may not be in Houston but somewhere where us out-of-towners live...
I'm surprised you can even remember what happened to you at the age of 3. You had to be AT LEAST 3 and a half.
Good story Max. My father and I almost died in a car accident, my brother recovered from Stage IV cancer. After events like this you appreciate life much more and have faith...
Wow! Great story MadMax. I am glad you made it, the world is a better place no doubt. God bless you man.
Somebody knew that the world needed Max more than Max needed the world. We are all better off for it.
Wow that was a great story...was this the first time you made a thread about this? Thanks for sharing, it'll make some of us appreciate life a little more
Good read Max. From one of your previous posts, I think I read we went to the same HS - Stratford (although I'm class of '89). On a personal note, my wife was born 6 months pre-mature and spent months in the hospital in those machines. It was a miracle that she made it. If not for the grace of God allowing her to live, I wouldn't be married to the awesome woman that she is today and have 3 great kids and a fourth on the way.
Max, have you ever wondered if God wanted you to go and some other supernatural power had a hand in keeping you around for another reason? I'm just saying, that, like in that one Treehouse of Horror ep from the Simpsons, Flanders turned out to be the Devil and said it's the person you least suspect, and you are pretty much the Flanders of this board. I'll I'm saying is If I ever say out loud to myself that I'd sell my soul for something like a donut, I hope you won't appear in a flash of fire and brimstone with a contract in hand.
Wow, Max, I missed this story the first time around. We are coming up to the anniversary of the day I almost died (Friday after Thanksgiving) when I was 15. Nothing as dramatic as yours, just that I got pneumonia really bad. Problem was everyone in my family got the flu one after the other and I was the last to get it. Only I kept getting worse. For whatever reason, my parents were blind and thought I would be fine. I also wasn't honest in telling them exactly what I was feeling. Anyway, finally my sister yells at my mother to take me to the doctor because I literally couldn't even stand up straight due to the constriction in my chest. Then the doctor yelled - YELLED - at my mother demanding how she could let me get that bad, that I was the worst case she had ever seen. I was living basically on half a lung. Anyway, I was in the hospital for 8 days before they felt I was stable enough to go home. Basically I was about a day or less from death. It was over a month before I could go back to school and about 8 years before I was fully normal again. Ah, memory lane.
Here's my theory, Max. Nothing religous, really, but pretty important nonetheless. Somehow, through some convoluted chain of events no one could possibly trace even if they had the time or the inclination, your presence those years from when you were three up to 1994 allowed the Rockets to win their championships. In those moments when you were unconcious between 2:00 and 3:00, Karl Malone appeared to you and told you that in 1995 his team would defeat the Rockets 3-1 in the first round of the playoffs and he would finally have his championship. You of course balked at this. Your spirit's absolute unwillingness to allow that fountain of pure evil to obtain that which he most desired paved the way for our two time back to back world champion Houston Rockets (with some help from that Nigerian dude). Thank you, Max. We all owe you a little something for fighting back that day.
There's a purpose he's alive? I think he already mentioned them. And stop being so selfish, MadMax, just thinking about yourself. Everyone you mentioned, including us here, would have missed out also. Thanks for sharing, and yes, Thank God.
Great story Max, even if you are a blinkin' 'stros fan. Thanks for the bump. Was surprised by the Nomar sighting. Holy cow, that guy was a douche ...
I second this. I don't know why I had missed this before, but I was glad I read it. Thanks for sharing with us, Max.
