I'm going to ingnore the cynicism about treatment vs. cure and give the medical community a high five on HIV and AIDS. They have taken a disease that was a death sentence and are allowing many folks to live full, fairly healthy lives. The drugs are expensive, but many of them are having prices fall faster than plasma screen TVs.
anyone know someone who died of AIDs. I knew a guy who died just about a month ago. weird, he played college basketball and was a pretty healthy guy. also I used to go to this hair saloon owned by a gay guy, he used to be so vibrant. Nice guy. died a few years back. when I first started going there he was doing hair, then for about six months he would come in and just sit a and watch and finally he stopped coming in and about another three months later I heard he died. HBO has a good mini series based on a play about AIDs in the early eighties in NY, called "Angels in America" Al Pacino plays Roy Cohn, Joseph McCarthy's right hand man during the McCarthy hearings who was a closet gay guy who dies in the eighties.
Not so much... http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2005/10/30/AR2005103000747_pf.html http://www.startribune.com/1244/story/471790.html http://newstandardnews.net/content/index.cfm/items/2552 http://www.thestate.com/mld/thestate/news/nation/14631577.htm
Angels in America: Millennium Approaches along with the second part Perestroika is probably the best series of American plays of the last 20 years.
Well, that's crummy to read. Did Bush's generous 4 billion to Africa ever show up? Last time I checked, he was too busy teaching them their ABCs with carrots. They should help him learn his math.
Exactly. If you're religious and you're opposed to the vaccine, why not be opposed to all forms of medical treatment? Any artificial extending of life expectancy rather goes against divine will, does it not? I suppose most advances in medicine over the years that improve the quality of life have been blessings from a benign deity, while the HPV vaccine was sent to test our adherence to the message of abstinence It boils down to double standards.. and the keeping of one's mind firmly in the closet, with a couple of steel padlocks on the door and no keys in sight
