Pretty beastly episode overall. Now another week of school and boredom until the next episode Oh well, the Rockets getting the 2nd or 3rd seed until then will make up for this, I guess....
Pretty incredible episode. Tony Almeda was a no-show in the last hour. I was scared for a second, thinking they would kill Bill Buchanan. He's my 2nd favorite character next to Bauer.
Best 24 episode Ive seen in a few seasons. Very happy with this season thus far. Would like to see a little more Tony though. Hoping that Pierce & Bill make it through this, but we all know that 24 HAS to kill someone important or else the writers go mad.
Felt like The Rock when Team Juma scubaed in underneath. Good stuff. Agent Moss must be really important. He's in charge of every operation.
In case people haven't seen it yet, I'll post my thoughts here. <spoiler>I just get this feeling that Agent Moss takes the bullet next episode. That expression from Jack on the previews could really only mean that someone died. I think they're trying to rebuild Jack's character and his expression when Renee Walker scrambles over Moss taking the bullet. </spoiler>
as always, gettting stupid. the first 5 hours are the entertaining ones. then they run out of ideas. terrible.
These quotes are why I'm glad I'm not a Hollywood writer. If realism is a priority, I'm not sure how probable it is, in a situation with as much danger as a typical 24 season, for an entire cast to make it through without someone either dying or being seriously injured. If all the main characters made it through just fine, imo that would be too ridiculous. As for the attack last night, I always find it funny when people who probably haven't spent more than a week in Washington in their entire lives act like they know, in detail, the exact security protocol, detail and deployment. Is it improbable? Sure. Then again, several significant real-life events have been quite improbable as well, so who are we to say -- unless one of you has spent time in the President's SS -- exactly how unrealistic any of this is? Besides, it's freakin' entertainment. If you want everything to be exactly as it would be in reality, go watch a documentary. I'm shaking my head as to how anyone could complain about the magic of those two hours last night.
I do know 24 is over the top entertainment, but it seems that atleast once per season they have a totally absurd plot point and last night was the one for this season. It was totally ridiculous to think that someone could get some scuba gear, drill into the White House with the biggest obstacle being a brick wall. Then there isn't one military officer anywhere in the White House? Really? I enjoy 24, but again, the one crazy, stupid, intelligent-insulting polt point every season just makes me shake my head. Last season was the nuclear weapon going off, this year was the easy attack on the White House. Shake your head all you want, parts of the show last night were ridiculous last night. I have no idea why people want to defend a TV show so dilligently if someone else doesn't enjoy it as much as you do. The issue seems to be the writers have a certain number of plot points they want to get to, and they seem to throw logic out of the window to get to them at times. I am all for over the top entertainment, but even in that realm there comes a point that things are just a bit ridiculous and becomes almost a parody or a comedy. I still like the show, but just at times it gets hard to suspend disbelief when they go that far.
What was at all unrealistic about the nuke going off last year? Maybe I missed it. Maybe I'm stupid (although, keep in mind, I've worked in DC, been in the White House numerous times and personally watched the security teams over and over again), but I've just seen far too many crazy real-life things to dismiss almost anything as being "too ridiculous." That was an absolutely enormous and well-trained team led by Juma.
Why did Bauer go nuts on Buchanan? He pointed a gun and started yelling at him. Then slapped on the sleeper. Dammit, he's running out of time... But he was courteous enough to stop his interrogation of Burnett to answer a phone call?
They need to off taylor. She is starting to be super annoying. Putting the people of another country over her own is treasonous. Also that 70's show dad needs to offed.
The issue with the nuke was it went off early in the show, but then they totally forgot it the rest of the season. Outside of some news reports, it was ignored. A nuke going off in the US should have been a bigger deal, not just a cool visual. It should have effected pretty much everything the rest of the season. The producer even admitted that was a total mistake. So you are saying that it didn't irk you that there was not one military troop in the White House? It didn't irk you that you can scuba your way to the White House, drill a big hole, knock down a wall and be right in the White House? Really? That part irked me big time. I know that they had some help, but it was a bit too easy for them to get in the White House and once they did, the resistance was a joke. Like I said, I enjoy the "over the top"-ness of the show, but last night things got taken a bit too far for me. Just my opinion. I respect that you were cool with it, I just ask you respect the fact I wasn't.
Taylor is a hypocrite. She doesn't negotiate with terrorists...fine. She allowed a plane crash and a near chemical plant explosion. I could respect that she stuck to her guns. Then when it's her own family's lives at risk instead of innocent Americans, she gave in...twice. We all know Juma won't be successful, but I will enjoy every minute of her humiliation. How did Juma's hand taste? LMAO.
Oh, ok, I can see that. I thought you were saying it was unrealistic in the sense of how the nuke attack was carried out and drawing a comparison to last night's attack. From a context standpoint, yes, I agree it was underplayed in the latter hours. Unless I'm missing something, the Marines are usually stationed on top of the White House and wouldn't be able to see someone coming from underneath, if that were possible. By the time in which security teams realized what was going on, Juma bluffed them by saying he had Taylor, and thus they were ordered to stand down. Can you scuba dive to the White House? I'm assuming no. But DC is basically a swamp, it's surrounded by a lot of water, and is basically right at sea level, so at least in theory it's not impossible. Like I said, I've seen far too many things happen in my lifetime that I've thought would be impossible to dismiss anything unless I'm completely certain beyond the slightest sliver of a doubt. I definitely respect your opinion and don't have a problem with it. But this is a discussion thread, and I was surprised enough to see a negative response that I thought it would be an interesting analysis. It's not a big deal.
There were military troops there to blow the door when Jack was interrogating the senator's chief of staff. But they disappeared after that. Also, apparently everybody who's shot dies immediately. Nobody left with enough life left to radio and tell everybody there's an attack going on. I also think a screwdriver to the back would be a slow death (if death at all) and not a fast one.
It was mentioned a couple of times that Juma's crew had jammed all communication frequencies in the building.
