I thought Graham Bauer's wife was crippled in an auto accident? Oops, sorry... that was on Heroes. Damned space time continuum indeed!
Is it possible for the 'let's protect the civil rights of Muslims' angle to be played even more?!? Geez, we get the point. Half of every episode is devoted to this theme. More blood and guts, less civil rights lectures. This is supposed to be ENTERTAINMENT, not a public service announcement.
Maybe that was just Chloe discovering that Jack's brother is involved? We don't really know to what extent yet...but it's obvious he's big into some bad stuff.
Definitely not as good as the first four hours, but I think its all a set-up for what's coming next...I think next weeks will be good... Graham as the bad guy, he's always been that way, but I guess no one new it...I can't imagine him being the mastermind of it all...Karen resigning? that was ghey...I mean, c'mon, like Tom has that sort of power...That's what I don't get...Then Palmer's sisters bf getting the crap beat out of him...classic...For $7MM, i'd wire up the nuke...
That last episode sucked donkey balls. I'm just not enjoying this season nearly as much. I don't find the characters all that intriguing...except for Jack. Chloe is practically non-existent so far as far as involvement. The rest of CTU is just a bore. Man, I miss the old characters they killed off. I can't take the actor from "Porkys" seriously...sorry. I just think the characters are lacking this season. Their not well developed, their not interesting, and I don't think their well-acted, either. Something better pick up... .
Why did they hire the tallest actor to play father Bauer? Jack is like 5'9" and Graham is 5'6". Daddy Bauer looked like a Giant.
I couldn't agree more. I absloutely love 24, I have never missed 1 episode, I think it is one of the best TV shows ever, but so far this season stinks. The characters are dry, boring and not interesting at all. Wayne Palmer is good in a role as David's chief of staff, but as president, he is not a good enough actor. Chloe doesn't even have any lines in the shows, Palmer's sister is a bad actress and annoying, Tom Lennox is a dorky little weasel. I miss the interesting characters like President Logan and Mike Novick and Martha Logan and Aaron Pierce from last yr. Tony and Michelle, Ryan Chappelle, Edgar....etc The storylines so far are worse than the characters, IMO. It is the typical terrorists with nukes blowing up the US with Jack trying to stop them. The only difference is the involvement with Graeme and his father. They haven't even adressed the fact that Jack has spent 18 months in prison. He escpaes from Fayed and he is back to fighting terrorists. Hopefully these last 2 bad episodes are just a set up for what's coming, and hopefully Jack will find out about Graeme's connection with Logan and Henderson and the nerve gas. Meanwhile, I've been watching The Shield, and I'm on season 5, and it keeps getting better. That show kicks still kicks ass like 24 did before this season.
So "two" bad episodes, which I don't even agree with, means the entire season stinks, even though it's only 33 percent of it? I guess my confusion with the critics is that almost all of that could be applied to previous seasons. They addressed Jack's time in prison in the first episode, then essentially haven't made a big deal of it. Much like they didn't make a huge deal of the Chinese last season, or the disappearance of Chase and Kim the year before that. They mentioned Palmer's hand even less in season 3. This show has always, for better or worse, not had as significant a link to the previous season's cliffhangers as you would think before it starts. Tom Lennox is a dorky little weasel? See Mike Novick, season 2. See Walt Cummings, season and season 5. You miss the interesting characters? With Tony, Michelle, Chappelle, Edgar, Pierce and others, you had multiple years to warm up to them and understand the characters. With these, you've had all of six episodes. It's hard to be as interesting when you've had nowhere close to as much airtime for character develop. Typical terrorists with nukes? With the exception of the latter parts of seasons 2 and 5, they've always been like that. Season 2? Typical terrorist with a nuke. Season 3? Typical terrorists with a virus. Season 4? Typical terrorist with a warhead. Season 5? Typical terrorist with nerve gas. Were there layers to those stories? Of course. With season 5, there was the involvement of the administration and with season 2 you had the involvement of the businessmen. Guess what? You didn't know either of those by the sixth episode. I also think the criticism of the Palmers is a little predictable. Wayne was cast as somewhat of a weak leader trying to escape the shadow of his brother. Sandra was cast as an annoying civil rights activist to get in the way and seemingly impede progress. They're not bad actors. They're playing the characters the way they're supposed to in the eyes of the directors. You might not like them, but there's a reason they want to elicit that emotion, and I'm sure we'll see it in the coming episodes. I don't necessarily disagree with anything the critics are saying... I just don't see how any of it was different in previous seasons.
I think people who are disappointed with the show are caught up in the hype. If the show really sucks, wait 20 weeks and catch up then. It'll probably be better for everyone...
Ever consider that maybe the ones caught up in the hype are the ones in denial about the show? The writing and acting is crummy right now, period. It was going that direction last year too. But people are still going to watch it and enjoy it, jut like the do every time they see a cliched summer blockbuster. It has its place. Its still more entertaining than a lot of garbage on the air. But it's slipping and is start to look like a straight to video sequel.... Evan
If it's slipping starting with last season, it sure fooled the Emmy people, winning the award for the first time...
Part of it might be that it is the same thing over and over again. It would have been interesting the first time; less so the next. The show is fairly formulaic. Jack finds terrorist. Torture terrorist to get info on next terrorist. Repeat several times. Always include a mole or bad guy in CTU or administration. Make sure Jack is caught a few times, but bad guys remain stupid and instead of shooting him, try to capture him or hold him for 30 minutes to let him escape. Also, each year, be sure terrorists get more and more successful. There's nothing new or different really. They switched up the characters, but otherwise its the same thing yet again. At some point, it starts getting old. As someone mentioned, the characters are bland so far. In previous seasons, the personalities that you knew could overcome the same ol' plot. This year, without them, there's less to keep people hooked and interested early on.
If that's true, why the hype before the season? That's what I don't understand. I completely get that it might be repetitive for some people, but if you're one of those people, why did you have expectations in the first place? Likewise, anyone could've predicted, and rightfully so, that the new characters would appear bland after six episodes, given that there hasn't been the necessary time to build character. If those things are important to people, I'm not sure why they watched to begin with... you should've seen them coming well in advance. I also don't see any reason not to trust the writers to develop these characters into people we care about, given time.
