Not the best logic here. She still didn't explain exactly why adoption was "out of the question", or why the parents "had to" necessarily get married.

Not the best logic (this may not exactly be the brightest town), though given her age, what do you expect? Of course, this is the maturity level at which she will start raising and teaching her own child... scary.

Like that will help. When is our society going to start prosecuting these guys who are picking on underage girls? Usually the 12-year-olds are not getting pregnant by other 12-year-olds, put it that way. There is a reason we have laws against these things. These "relationships" involve imbalances of maturity and power. Nobody should be sexually active at that young of an age. It's too much to handle, psychologically, all the other risks notwithstanding...

At this rate, statistically her daughter will fare no better and will learn that this behavior is accepted and one of the choices for her future. Then Crystal will be a grandmother by the time she's my age. (and I'm not even ready to be a mother yet)

What?! Are you serious? No way is that possible, unless the 5yrs old have some kind of physical illness that cause her to reach purberty at a very fast rate.

 

This quote (and the whole article) makes me think of what my brother-in-law would tell me about life in small-town Maine. That all the teenagers have so little to do they just drink and get high. That they don't see any other options for life. Perhaps they haven't considered pregnancy yet.

I'll stick my neck out with the unpopular viewpoint here - it sounds like the guy has mental problems and I don't believe that this particular relationship involves such an imbalance. The problem is that if his mental age is currently about 14 and a good match for the girl, what happens when she grows up? It won't be such a good match then.

It's clearly problematic, but I don't believe that it requires prosecution. Show me some evil intent first.

I agree with that - but I also suspect that nobody should get married before they are 25, or at least done with school. People change way too much as they mature. That doesn't mean I can or should stop them.
