The second tier of Offensive Tackles that I like that will probably go late 2nd Round, early third round are listed below. These are tackles that have starting potential later after a developmental period. Austin Barber Travis Burke Enrique Cruz Offensive Tackles that I am lower on than others that I have concerns with Markel Bell- Pays really soft and not with the potential of his size and strength. Diego Pounds- Huge liability in pass coverage. Looks like his feet are in cement. Caleb Tiernan- Short arm length and wingspan. Not ideal to play guard either. Drew Shelton- Doesn't show that he is above average in any aspect of blocking. Dametrious Crownover- I wouldn't draft a 25 year old developmental prospect.
I'll be supremely disappointed if we draft OT's in the first 4 rounds, unless they can be moved inside for depth this season. I really think that we can win it all this year but I also believe that we need to draft for THIS year to improve our chances of winning.
Strange that the Texans aren't more connected with more Center prospects in the draft. Bringing in Lew was for a Medical check on his ACL surgery. Zuhn is a local prospect. Brailsford, Nygra, and Dawkins are prospects that you would have interest in bringing in after the draft. It's almost as if the Texans aren't real interested in the Center prospects this year. Maybe cause most of them are looked at as ZBS prospects. Could be that the Texans are more interested in Guards that could also play Center such as Rutledge, Parker, Gesky, and Nwaiwu.
look at his draft buzz profile and he is a 92% match to Cade Stover. If you can’t try it once, try, try again. I’m sure it will work out one of these Cades.
As an Ohio State fan I was fairly underwhelmed with his 25' performance. I wouldn't take him and I was disappointed when we burned a 4th on Stover in 24'.
I like Mel's top-3 mock picks for us. From your link: "In ESPN senior draft analyst Mel Kiper's latest mock draft, he had Houston selecting Georgia defensive tackle Christen Miller in the first round and Texas A&M guard Chase Bisontis in the second round (No. 38). Kiper also had Houston selecting Indiana cornerback D'Angelo Ponds with its other second-round pick (No. 58)."
I know we traded for a punter.... but we should be laser focused on signing this guy as an UDFA after draft P Gabriel Nwosu, the Penn State University Finally, a TX-sized punter... 6'6, 313 lbs .Nwosu has squatted 525 pounds, benched 365 pounds, has a vertical jump of 39 inches, logged a broad jump of 9-foot-9, and ran a 4.86 40-yard dash. 36" arms with 11" hands (TWSS... never mind, she fainted). Averaged 46 yards per punt last season. Gabe is also a kick-off specialist and kicks XPs + FGs. No more Dare. He could get some reps on our blocking unit of STs and even on our goal line defense. Nick Caley would surely be interested in him getting reps at FB and jumbo goal line offense as well. Has his MBA & plays cello to boot. The NEW most interesting man in the world...
I'd like to see all the trade details for Lawrence. That tells me the Bengals expect Downs and Delane will be selected before they pick. McCoy's knee injury is probably more severe than what is reported. I'd expect a slide for McCoy in the draft. Above all, the Bengals liked 28 year old sexy Dexter Lawrence more than all the DT's in this years draft.
This has major draft scenario changes. At pick 5 the Giants will select Sonny Styles. And then at 10, I would see the Giants taking Vega Ione. The Giants most pressing need is Guard. Ravens fans are pissed off because they want Vega at 14. I still think the Cowboys trade up with Cleveland at 6 for either Downs or Delane.
Giants probably take Tate or Tyson at 10 if they are there. That’s what all the scouts have been saying and they went to dinner with Tyson too
I want my MENSA lineman playing Center, no matter where they played in college. This is why OGs and OTs who play better in a phone booth and are leaders on their teams are more appealing prospects than zone scheme midgets who played OC because they're incapable of playing against the Big Boys. But that's my preference as an old codger who grew up in an era of building teams from the line out instead of flashy first. It's why I wanted WAJ over any QB when I didn't think we could get both. I was old school, though I still like DT nose tackles before Edge players and OC before OT. Inside out rather than Outside In.
The cost is too high for me. FA money includes the assumption there is no other cost. When it cost you draft capital or personnel, then it reduces the price left for the player or the original premise of FA value is a false premise. If you pay both, then the FA value was underestimated. This is just an accounting argument rather than a value argument. Perhaps he is worth it or perhaps not, but that is a value argument. Should his FA value have been higher? The Giants appear to believe so if they pay with a high draft choice AND what his perceived Market Rate FA value is.
