I know you have fallen in love with Delp, but I don't think you need to grab him with pick 59. Both Lance Zierlein and McShay have Delp ranked as the 9th best TE in the draft. Zierlein projects him to be picked day 3. McShay has him ranked as the 144th best prospect.
Last year, everybody knew what the first 4 picks were going to be before the draft started. This year is going to be more of the same. I would say this year is an even easier draft to predict. The first trade up is when the Mock drafts go off the hinges. Without trades, the first 8 picks will go as follows. Pick Team Position Name University 1 Raiders QB Fernando Mendoza Indiana 2 Jets DE David Bailey Texas Tech 3 Cardinals LB Arvell Reese Ohio State 4 Titans RB Jeremiyah Love Notre Dame 5 Giants LB Sonny Styles Ohio State 6 Browns WR Carnell Tate Ohio State 7 Redskins S Caleb Downs Ohio State 8 Saints CB Mansoor Delane LSU
I drafted him in a mock off-season (on a different site with ~24 other GMs)... that's what I alluded to Here is the write-up With pick 125 of the 2026 LCM draft, the Houston Texans select QB / WR / Weapon Taylen Green, the University of Arkansas Taylen is being drafted for 2 fundamental purposes: to rev up the Texans offense and potentially be a long-term QB option. This pick kills 2 birds with one stone: future backup QB & WR who can stretch the field / put pressure on the back end of the secondary. Taylen's measureables, open field running ability, and ability to put pressure on the defense were too good to pass up. Initially Taylen will be in both the WR & QB rooms (like a certain other former Arkansas QB) There were several WR prospects that the Texans were considering at this juncture. But when you compare those WRs to Taylen's #'s & upside, he was too good to pass up. Our hope and belief is that Coleridge gets back to his rookie year performance. If so, he will be dropping dimes to his shiny new WR (in addition to his teammates). Moreover, as we develop Taylen as a QB / WR, some team may want to offer us valuable consideration that he could be their QB1. If CJ wants to play somewhere else, we can trade for him for a decent haul and develop Taylen as a dual-threat QB. We're excited to add Taylen to the Texans' roster! Welcome to Htown, Taylen!
Max has taken a minimum of 13 top 30 visits as reported on April 8th. Not all of the teams are known. I can't find any visits the Texans have had with Miller, Woods, Faulk, Lawrence, Cisse, Allen, Price, Howell, or Parker. Prospects that would make sense for the Texans at 28. Teams don't leak the visits. It's the prospects, agents, or universities.
I’m actually good with drafting Green or Cole Payton as developmental QBs. Or they could become “football” players for us similar to Taysom
Ha! Those were the only two QBs I would draft.... I might consider Jeff Sims as an UDFA (based solely on his athletic ability)
Last year in my Mock Draft, I nailed the following picks 1 Cam Ward 2 Travis Hunter 3 Abdul Carter 4 Will Campbell 14 Tyler Warren 18 Grey Zabel 21 Derrick Harmon And I had Atlanta pick James Pearce Jr at 15, which the Falcons chose Jalon Walker instead. But then traded back into the 1st round to select Pearce at 26. I had the Texans selecting Tyler Booker, which almost happened with the Texans on the phone with minutes to go in a potential trade with Dallas..
You'll probably see an Aaron Wilson report on the Caleb Lomu and Omar Cooper Texans visits tomorrow. They are both possibilities, but will have more interest from other teams. The 49ers and Raiders (trade up in front of the 49ers) are the most likely teams to draft Caleb. Omar Cooper maybe the 2nd WR drafted this year, because of medical red flags with Tyson and scheme fits with Lemon.
Yes, I like Delp a lot! He's 6'5, 245, ran a 4.48 40 and I believe he could be an incredible weapon in our offense. He's very athletic. I might be picking him too early because I believe he could be great for us, hopefully THIS season.
