Mike Tice hated Ersery Talking with his son, Nate Tice, on the Football 301 Podcast recently, the former Minnesota Vikings head coach and offensive line coach identified the reasons why Ersery isn't his "flavor." "This isn't, to be frank, this isn't my flavor right here. You got a big guy that bends at the waist, that doesn't sink his hips, doesn't finish great. He doesn't have that motor like [Gray Zabel] has. Absolutely not," Tice explained. "He does a little bit of watching at the end of plays. That would pretty much drive me nuts. He gets narrow in the run game. "I'm trying not to be a real line coach in this show for you Nate. I don't want to say he looked like Tarzan, played like Jane, but for his size and for the amount of experience he has, I'd like to see him do a little bit better, to be frank with you."
Just an alternative point of view. Since we've picked up experienced starters through Trades and Free Agency, we could focus on developmental or injury risk players with high ceilings with earlier picks which might not fall far enough to pick up later. My initial thought is Caleb Banks who has fallen because of his ankle, but who is likely to be picked before 59 regardless. If you trust the room for depth, you can take a flyer on his upside.
This is definitely where the culture of the teams part ways. Some players will adapt to the culture and learn how to change. Other cannot or will not. Quickly identifying those differences has caused consternation with spreadsheet warriors (of which I am one) when the guy with good individual stats hurts the culture. But the flip side is finding those diamonds in the rough and making them shine because the culture demands it. To this point, I am not as concerned as many about Kadyn Proctor being unable to control his weight because he will be surrounded by those who will both support him and demand commitment. This is precisely why they changed the culture of the OL room.
I appreciate your point of view. My view is that we should be in "win NOW" mode and draft players that are going to give us the best chance of winning it all this season. I don't want to use a high pick on an OL who needs a season to give us meaningful snaps. I think we can get more bang for our buck, so to speak, by using our higher picks on quality players at DT, TE, LB, DE, and CB where we need starters and depth.
I caught the last part of the extended broadcast on him, but they stopped using his name. Sometimes broadcasters and podcasters need to repeat essential information. ZUHN!
Zuhn is the perfect type of IOL to draft early day 4 and watch him be an average NFL starter for the better part of a decade, IMO.
Another Center prospect to consider for the Texans. I don't understand why he does not have a draftable grade. Looks really good on film.
Browns won't pick at 6. They are most likely trading down. Most likely trade scenario is with Dallas. Dallas get pick 6 and 39. Cleveland gets pick 6 and 20. Dallas wants and Edge rusher (Bain/Reese) or Styles at 6 and a Nickel CB at 39 (Ponds/Terrell). Cleveland wants a OT at 12 (Freeling/Proctor) and a WR at 20 (Tyson/Cooper). Trade helps both teams maximize their draft values.. Miami wants Fano. Remember Slowik is offensive coordinator at Miami and he uses smaller athletic tackles.
What's happening with the CB draft prospects is really interesting. Looks like Mansoor Delane will be the first CB selected. After Delane is a big question "?" Avieon Terrell's Pro Day was a disaster where he ran 4.60 40 and injured his hamstring Jerod McCoy is being red flagged by a lot of teams due to his knee which they believe will need an additional surgery. Does this mean that Colton Hood and Chris Johnson get pushed further up the board and possible selection in the 1st round?
