Great pick. 3rd round value. If he signs along with the other 3 HS guys this is a strong draft. Astros going to have extremely crowded rosters in Fayetteville and the complexes next season. Tronstein has an odd looking swing. He will have good defensive value and has elite power potential even though he's not a big guy.
Isn't johnson also committed to vandy ? I'm wondering if that's a strategy by the astros , at least we should get one of them . But getting one means potentially more playing time at vandy for the other ?
That HS program is elite. This is probably a pretty good pick I wonder how much it will take to sign him?
I think the 15th isn't high enough to be sure they can sign him, but he seems too high-profile to he a backup option if one of their other deals falls through.
Round 16, Pick 481: Rashawn Galloway, C, Texas State Bunch of mashers in San Marcos. .318/.368/.580, 12 HR, 48 RBI, 53 R, 18 BB (3 HBP), 23 K, 1 SB (1 CS)
Galloway had a power breakout his Sr year at TSU. Will make a good 3rd catcher in Asheville next year.
Round 17, Pick 511: Ben Tryon, IF, Dallas Baptist Utility guy. I think he's the college bat who's struck out the most in the class. Going back to the MLB Draft League to pick a player who's been tearing it up there. 57 games (56 starts), .315/.426/.540, 11 HR, 37 RBI, 54 R, 33 BB (10 HBP), 42 K, 5 SB (1 CS) MLB Draft League: 27 games, .371/.468/.598, 10 2B, 3 3B, 2 HR, 31 RBI, 28 R, 15 BB (7 HBP), 20 K, 4 SB (2 CS)
We need to see and so much of it is a crapshoot - but this is the best draft the Astros have had in years.
Round 18, Pick 541: Petey Soto Jr., SS, Utah Tech 59 games, .347/.405/.505, 6 HR, 48 RBI, 51 R, 18 BB (2 HBP), 35 K, 13 SB (2 CS)
Round 19, Pick 571: Noah Miller, C, Michigan 48 games, .292/.375/.398, 3 HR, 26 RBI, 20 R, 14 BB, 28 K, 2 SB
Brown thinks if you can play up the middle on the infield- you can play most spots on the diamond. He talked about it last year when discussing play time for players in low minors.
