That's like saying Braves couldn't win without Acuna in 2021 (too soon?)... the division is weak, and anything can happen in the playoffs.
I think he is takking about Melton who adds a left handed bat and is the fastest person in the system from what I've heard.
The Stros are 1/2 a game out of 1st place and some are suggesting a sell off? SMH How about this, Trade for a SP3, get Alvarez/Arrighetti back and playing at the level they're capable of, then maybe get Walker/Altuve/Diaz etc... hitting at the level they usually hit at.
Nobody knows how well Melton is going to do at this point. We all hope he tears it up but that's TBD.
With our pitching depleted I’d like to see Espada give Gusto a little more time out there. I get it, but at this point our bullpen needs the rest.
It's easier to predict defensive improvement than offensive improvement. Doesn't mean it's out of the question, it's just a more difficult projection.
I can't see them selling as long as they are in contention to win the division, and they don't need Alvarez to do that. Maybe they'll have more injuries. Maybe they'll just play like ****. More likely than not however they will be in contention and will not be selling.
You are right. Nothing is in stone until it happens. But just based on baserunning and defense, Melton's floor is much much higher than Dezenzo's, even with Zach bring a semi-known entity and semi-proven.
Dezenzo is a young player who had very few minor league AB's. He has a lot of room to improve his game with the bat and defensively too as far as that goes. Same with Melton, Melton will always be the better defender because of his speed. Although it's not like Dezenzo is slow or a bad defender.
After a very slow start, I really like where Yainer is at now in his hitting. Over his last 50 PA he has a 8BB% and 18K% and has avoided GBs giving him a .453 xwOBA over that span. Hopefully he made an adjustment that took a while for him to get comfortable with as this kind of approach is what will take him to the next level as a hitter. Also, while his overall fielding numbers have been bad this year, it seems he has improved his pitch framing a little bit, although it's hard to tell as his overall strike rate has gone done but seems to be buoyed by a bigger park/pitcher adjustment. If he could just become average there he would be such a better overall player.
More than anything, the guy needs regular work. I can't imagine how difficult it must be for someone with his limited MLB experience to only play part time. Just send him down already if this is how he is going to be used.
I like Dezenzo. He is just limited. He will probably he an acceptable LF or 1b, but DH is his best position. He will probably always have high strike outs and while not slow, he is also not a burner on the bases. He could possibly be 2005 Jason Lane or 2007 Luke Scott. Those guys were 1.5-2 WAR outfielders. They were Dependible as the 5th or 6th best position player on a team.
The diddefence we're having is because Dezenzo has played so little baseball, he's got a lot of room for improvement. You see him as a finished product.
Most MLB players peak around 25. Maybe Dezenzo is a late bloomer. I'm hoping he has 2-4 good years like Chas. I don't expect him to be playing much into his 30s.
I do not see him as a finished product. He is currently not near those guys. But I think he can get there and that's great The difference we're having is you think his ceiling is higher than I do which is fine. 1990 Franklin Stubbs would be a good result as well - he was a 3 WAR guy. My understanding is you think maybe he could become Teoscar Hernandez? It's possible, but I just think probability is low of him ever becoming a silver slugger or all-star contending type of player.
