So does Alvarez’s injury mean the Astros are going to be buyers or sellers? Of course, the Astros won’t give us a real clue on whether he will even be back this year. If he is not going to be, we have no chance at the World Series and believe Framber will be trade bait at the deadline. I love Cam and think Dezenzo is also going to be a player, but no way they can even come close to this year to what Alvarez brings to the offense.
I still believe Alvarez's value for the remainder of his career is less than his trade value at this years deadline.
They know it they just don't want to do surgery. EDIT: Well it could be Alvarez won't do surgery. Bregman got the surgery at the end of 2021 I believe ..
I think Brown came to the conclusion that they weren't getting a lefty bat. Considering how this team treated Cam Smith, Melton has done enough to get a shot. Bad news: This team does not have the prospects to get a lefty bat unless he's a rental. Even more bad news: There are 8 teams that are sellers right now: A's, Angels, Marlins, Nats, Orioles, Pirates, Rockies, White Sox Those are the teams with less than 5% chance at the post season according to Baseball Reference, Fangraphs, and Baseball Prospectus. The Reds are close but Fangraphs still thinks they are over 5%. This early, with 6 playoff spots in each league, a team must REALLY be out of it to be sellers. Of all 8 teams, there are only 2 rental lefty bats who are 100 or better wRC+: Ryan O'Hearn and Cedric Mullins both on the Orioles. Mike Elias is on the hot seat and needs to have a bounce back season next year to save his job. They are loaded with position players but need MLB ready pitching. The Astros can't afford to trade MLB ready pitching. The Astros are not getting an upgrade to the lineup.
I get that the MRI needs to get some swelling down before....but the Dude's been hitting for 2 weeks or so? And they're just now taking new images? Not after every 2 or 3 batting sessions? Can't afford another MRI? WTF? I thought they were defendable, but this is now totally indefensible and I don't understand what they're doing.
I'm glad you know what the Stros are doing/will do. There's no reason to post or talk about theoreticals again, right? Because that would get tedious?
This lineup could be pretty good even if Yordan is out long term if Melton and Smith take off. SS Pena 3B Paredes DH Altuve 1B Walker C Diaz LF Melton RF Smith CF Meyers 2B Whitcomb
