As a business owner, if you know you can't compete financially with the Dodgers then why would you try knowing you probably can make more money by spending as little as possible on your franchise with no risk. BTW, this isn't new, big vs small market teams has been going on for over 50 years. Small market teams used to be like farm teams for the Yankees back in the day.
Since 2013, the Dodgers have more LDS losses (5) than pennants (4). The Mets have more losing seasons (3) than postseason appearances (2) since Cohen bought them. The Yankees have been to the World Series once since 2010. You don't have to compete financially in order to compete with them. Yes; and fans have been buying the billionaires are the victims lie for just as long.
I’m not sure Montero belongs in the majors and Contreras certainly isn’t established (of course neither are Ort or Whitley). But the new bullpen arms will be welcome. The real question is how they’ll manage the rotation if McCullers comes back and nobody else gets hurt.
No investors will keep money in a team if they are not getting back money (a lot of money). It's just a matter of how much money they want to get back into their pockets (30%+), and if that means they'll suck the team dry and run it at low cost to achieve it then that's what they will do. Every team is profitable, but at the end of the day...it's how much profit i Seriously...the pen is going to get stretched once McCullers comes back. I doubt he'll pitch more than 3 innings for a while. Wonder if Montero will get cut again...
McCullers won’t be back on the roster until he throws 5 innings in a minor league start. They’re not bringing him back up to throw 3 inning starts, at least not intentionally.
On bats, one thing I’ve always wanted to see is a MLB team play using those gorilla ball bats from 90s college baseball. They should try that in the all star game one year for fun.
Montero and Contreras need to go away. I guess you send King back to the minors if LMJ is back and everyone stays healthy when Ort and Whitley are ready.
It is looking like King is the primary leverage guy after Abreu and Hader, and he’s looked really good. Gusto will in effect be the guy sent down when McCullers gets back if everybody else is healthy. Ort:Contreras optioned Whitley:Gusto optioned McCullers:Montero DFA or traded
Mets were the best projected team Houston will face thru April 30th. Houston should be favored in every series in April except against the Mariners on the road.
I was afraid this team was headed towards mediocrity after the offseason substractions. Hopefully, it’s not going to be even worse than that
