Some maybe, most not. They're well paid to assume these risks and if they weren't willing to take these risks they would be replaced by other players that were. This really isn't much different than coal miners except players are paid millions. What about high school players, they except CTE risks for no pay. Of course I dont know what the correlation to playing high school football and CTE is.
It's like if you're RH, trying to go bowling/golfing/BP with a bum left knee. It's a lot of torque and stress.
But they don't. There's been millions invested into new helmet technologies. Endless new rules have been put into place to reduce hard hits or hits to the head. Any signs of concussions gets players taken out. There are extended evaluations of all head injuries. Etc. They don't just take a hit anymore and then run back into the huddle while woozy and not knowing where they are.
Throwing away 60% of games with these pitchers had to stop. Huge lead completely vanishing. Before our eyes as Alexander, gusto and Gordon try to stop the bleeding. We are down 4-0 by the 3rd inning in most games now.
Per the GM Pena is gonna need rehab games. Say he starts those later this week. GM said 8/1 is earliest day back, so I could be off by 2 weeks, but we’ll see.
I hope all the players currently out come back healthy as soon as possible. That being said, it’s a long season and sometimes you’ve got to play at less 100%. If they’re not careful, these guys will be plenty healthy to watch the playoffs from their couch.
In 2022 we got swept by the As at this exact same time in July.....we went on to win the WS that year. Its a long season
I keep seeing this and both situations are not similar. A's swept the astros in Oakland not in houston. The 2022 astros did not have an injuries crisis vs 2025 astros.
No it’s not. You literallly irritate that area everytime you swing. I’m sure he’d do anything to come back sooner… but he just would not be effective at all with that sort of discomfort. Swinging a bat with that sort of torque is far worse than throwing a football (or baseball). And they need him back to be effective at swinging a bat. Not just for his defense (which I’m sure he’d probably had been able to play the field sooner). How long were Altuve and Yordan out with their oblique injuries 2 years ago? About this time. Similar to how Arrighetti’s thumb injury would have probably allowed him to play sooner… if he played any other position besides the one where you have to grip the ball and make it do all sorts of unnatural things like spin and curve and dive and be able to locate it precisely every time.
I thought this was already inferred much earlier in the week. Everybody involved said it was pretty severe, and it’s no coincidence the Correa and Suarez rumors started picking up steam right after (even if they were considering those guys before). It’s a 3+ month injury.
Right, that was just a reaction to "Fire the Astros Medical Staff" or whatever he said. Would you give up more for Suarez (the better player) of less for Correa (would be fun as hell)?
Suarez is the rental… so you’d actually probably end up giving up “less” (in terms of future salary/CBT/etc.). The Twins will give Correa just for the cash, but it’s a ****-load (maybe the work stoppage and new CBA will allow some amnesty deals like the NBA ended up giving into? Of course that would be a very lengthy work stoppage if things like that are being considered). Correa is ‘family’… and regardless of his decline, he is a pedigreed clubhouse presence for a clubhouse that doesn’t really have one. Espada is probably the biggest ‘voice’, and that’s foreign territory for the golden era (having the manager have to directly motivate… and despite that, its worked this year to this point… but they need talent/actual MLB players to go much further). At the end of the day, you are who you are… even with the guys coming back, it’s around an 87-90 win team (carried by pitching). Good enough to win the division this year and good enough to possibly avoid the WC round…. But that also presumes that Cam Smith still has some adjustment ability and they also find somebody who can off-set the loss of Paredes.
The one injury that's mind boggling to me is melton's sprained ankle. You sprained your ankle by watching a homerun and you've been out this long? Insane.
It was severe (high ankle). He also had back issues prior to that which may have also been exacerbated. He’s not as ‘young’ as other players who make their debuts, but by all accounts this was as bad as an ankle injury as one can have (ligaments torn… which is at least a 2 month process of healing).
Couldn’t hurt. Not like they have a real team in Pittsburgh anymore anyways. (The real culprits of bad baseball economics and upcoming work stoppages… the teams not willing to spend on anybody).
