I've broken some ribs, but I've never had a ribectomy. He could be out anytime from 72 hours to 72 weeks
I know they are being cautious but I can't help but think 30 years ago, at this stage he would have been back for 2 weeks..... We hold guys out forever these days..... DD
Last time I broke ribs, I asked ol' hippie cousin Ronny what he used to do. He was the climber-topper on a logging crew in Oregon back in the day, "boss of the tree", highest guy up there...he said "we'd wrap tape all the hell around you and then go back to work" The doctors "won't let you" do that anymore, because they're worried about your lungs not expanding enough and then you collect fluid and then you get pneumonia. Allegedly. The first few days was just about the most painful thing I can recall. Hurts to move, hurts to f'ing breathe. I cannot imagine trying to swing a bat with broken ribs. It took me about 3-4 weeks to feel normal again.
Why not send all of the young guys down to save service time and trade Framber/Hunter/Hader/Abreu and be done with this year and probably the next 3 years, but hey after doing all of this the Stros should have the best farm system with the most young players under control in all of MLB. Is the goal to try to win championships or have the best farm system in MLB with a bunch of young players under team control for the next decade?
Yeah, awful that we treat people as humans now. Football players should go back in after concussions too - CTE be damned!
My HS buddy Rob and I still joke about it, I'm glad he can remember it, WR over the middle, I was running a slant from the other side so I got to see it all right in front of me....he got absolutely destroyed (helmet-helmet s!!t). Dude gets up, and proceeds to run into the other team's huddle. Ref kinda looked around and just nudged him back toward our part of the field. Did he get taken out? No, just didn't throw him the ball for about 2 plays.
It's all about putting the desire to win above your long term health. Some players are more than willing to pay this price, others aren't.
Dana Brown on radio pre-game before Sunday's game against As - Paredes injury more severe than expected. 2nd opinion being sought. Brandon Walter at least out for 3 weeks before tossing again. Peña to have 2-3 rehab starts with return as early as August 1. Left handed infield bat is a target at trade deadline.
