I wonder if the lack of swing and miss is conditions in El Paso. That’s a launching pad 4000 feet above sea level.
I love JV, but saying he doesn't get blown up just isn't accurate First start out of the break last week he gave up 9 hits, 2 BB, 4 earned and didn't get out of the 3rd inning Two starts before that he gave up 7 hits, 1 BB, 6 earned in 3 innings He has got through 5 innings in only 4 of his last 8 starts That 6IP with 3ER you mention, he has done that once in his last 8 starts Dude helped bring us our first ring and he will forever be one of the Astro Greats But sure looks like he is cooked
For this year, Arrighetti has the best chance of making a big difference Javier has a really good chance of being a difference maker for us next year, but not likely this year, at least not as a starter Maybe as a 2-3 inning reliever with 2-3 days off between appearances, which could be very helpful in the playoffs
I would be on board with bringing back Correa as long as the deal doesn't include Arighetti, Matthews, Melton, Alvarez or Sullivan Carlos can still play, and coming back here would probably get him pretty inspired for a big finish JV is cooked
For Javier, I think mph is less important than movement. His whole success story was built in that invisi-ball thing. If the ball doesn't have that unique movement, I think he's completely hittable - that was his issue before the injury when he was struggling, I think.
I'm not here to pitch JV as a great pitcher or a trade candidate, I was trying to say he was pretty mid. And maybe he's more of a 5 inning guy now. I wasn't being very precise, so maybe I can illustrate my point better. Consider that he's allowed 3 ER or fewer in 13 of 17 starts this season. This includes 2 of his last 3 starts - Wednesday he allowed one hit in 5 IP. I don't think that's cooked. He's got a 4.70 ERA and a 4.33 FIP this season. He's not good. But that's not awful. Charlie Morton has a 5.48 ERA and a 4.76 FIP this year, and people are hyping him as a trade candidate. My point was to contrast him with LMJ, who has a 6.90 ERA and a 5.84 FIP. Lance has given up 3 ER or fewer in only 6 of his 11 starts. He's been blown up in terms of 4+ earned runs more often (5x in 11 starts) than JV (4x in 17 starts). Of these two pitchers, Lance is the one that appears more cooked.
Yep, but he is only 30 and was a stud, when healthy, last year I think it's extremely unlikely it happens, and as I said earlier there is no way I would give up Matthews or Melton in a deal for him, but I have no doubt he would make us a better team if we had him
Would definitely do it on the cheap which makes it unlikely, but this will always be one of my fav moments he had in an Astros uni
We need a functional SS/3B... and he has the arm to play third. And Pena is still out... I don't expect Paredes to be there until late September. Just gotta avoid the 3-game set despite LA/NY using the long layoff as an excuse for past postseason failures.
https://www.houstonchronicle.com/sp...ayton-mclane-astros-suit-comcast-20785938.php I would be very interested in knowing the details of the settlement. If Crane just secured a 9 figure bag from McLane he might all of a sudden be more inclined to go over the tax threshold this season.
Oh ****. Literally unbelievable. Walter being out for the season would be a huge loss. I do like picking up Logan Davidson on a waiver claim. High upside bench/AAAA player.
