Truth is, Astros fans GREATLY overestimate the mental breakdowns compared to the rest of the world Framber has been one of the MOST consistent SP in major league baseball
I'm not counting on LMJ at all. If he returns and helps in bullpen, I'll be shocked. He's missed 50% of his career and he's only getting older.
Man I really hope Javier's surgery fixes whatever was bothering him. I saw something on Twitter about pitchers who dominated certain hitters in their career. Our boy Javier? He had 2 particular hitters he absolutely dominated. Their names? Mike Trout 0-14 with 8Ks Aaron Judge 0-15 with 8Ks Man I really hope we get our guy back. And he's his old self. He was nasty.
No doubt about this And the situation with Garcia is a bit scary too. Obviously we know very little because the Astros simply don't share injury info, but he was originally supposed to be back during the year last year, ran into some kind of set back, and now he isn't going to be ready for the start of the 2025 season. Hopefully he is able to contribute this year, but with what little news we have right now I think counting on that is foolish. Obviously Brown has legit info on what his injury is, but without that info i'm more than just a little worried about our rotation depth right now. I mean as of today we are counting on Wesneski as a member of our rotation to start the season. That's why I cringe when I see people throwing out trade offers that include Arrighetti/Blanco or any other starter. We need to slow down on moving SP
Everyone spent all of last year complaining about starting pitching and now seems to want just give it away despite the entire rotation outside of Framber being questionmarks. It's kind of bizarre.
I have a feeling Wesneski is gonna be pretty damn good. I watched highlights of him when we aquire him. He's got some pretty good stuff. Dana said the pitching coaches see some things they can correct. They are usually on point when it comes to that. He's my suprise breakout candidate this year. Can't wait to see him throw in Spring Training.
I don't disagree with this in general, but he certainly isn't someone we can just pencil in for 30 starts and know we are going to get quality innings from most of them. Just saying our rotation depth is pretty risky for a team that is World Series or it wasn't a good year
I dont want to trade pitching. But last year the same things were being said and Blanco/Arrighetti happened. Who's to say one or two of Blubaugh/Gordon/Gusto/Brito etc... cant do the same this year. If it's me I offer Melton and Blubaugh for Robert.
As long as those 73 games are at the end of the season/playoffs I would be OK with trading for him. Sometimes you have to gamble to add elite level talent. Plus while being good players, Melton and to a lesser degree Blubaugh are replaceable.
I would rather play Melton in center and keep Blubaugh to pitch than to have Robert (not elite) in the outfield.
While this cliché is a cliché for a reason, I think you must look at the big picture. You still have to Field a full team Score runs as well as prevent them Have a spot available for each SP If you have 8 healthy (I'm not saying that IS the case) MLB caliber SP, multiple guys ready to graduate AAA, and zero above average outfielders it's in the best interest of the team to make a trade or two.
The minute we trade pitching for something . . . we'll be chasing up Verlander's tree in June. Please, keep our young guns and see what they have.
SP get hurt at a staggering rate But if you have so many SP that you are not able to promote guys who are ready, from AAA but still have the weakest hitting OF in MLB you may not sniff the playoffs so don't have to worry about it anyway.
If they are pitching well enough, it doesn't matter if they have the weakest hitting OF. They had the weakest hitting OF for a long stretch of the season last year when Tucker was out and they were winning because every starter was keeping you in the game. Now it does becomes a lot tougher to win a championship if the bottom of your lineup is a black hole but an OF bat is probably be the easiest thing to find at the trade deadline. There's also a world where Chas bounces back and is giving up somewhere between a .750-.800 OPS and Dezenzo is somewhere around there as well.
I also think there’s an argument that Houston’s OF depth is as good as its pitching depth. Example: would you rather have Luis Robert in the OF and Ryan Gusto in the rotation, or Zach Dezenzo in the OF and Spencer Arrighetti in the rotation?
I'd probably take the gamble on Robert but I could make an argument for Arrighetti based on what we saw from him to end the season last year
