If only the Texans could add 3 guys with top 10 picks, two the become HOF'ers and the 3rd that would've been without a knee injury.

Fun Fact: in '85 the Oilers drafted Ray Childress at #3, then drafted some CB named "Richard Johnson" at 11. Jerry Rice was picked 5 picks later.

The Commanders are set to become really really good with their QB and all that money to spend. Us, ugh, so much wasted money and a season that's less than great, and a terrible offensive line, and not much left to spend.

Fun fact Reggie White was pick 1-1 in the USFL/NFL draft. Mike Rozier went 1-2.

Bruce Smith went 1-1 in the 1985 draft, Bill Fralic went 1-2 and Childress went 1-3.

That's how close the Oilers came to having Reggie White AND Bruce Smith on their DL. If that had happened I'm pretty sure there would've been parades in Houston and the Oilers would still be down on Kirby.

Please share with me where Caserio wasted so much money?

    Howard yes, that's wasted money.

Green is a wasted draft pick, but I dont call him wasted money.

Do you think the Nico/Mixon extensions are wasted money? He got out from under Diggs money. (Smart move)

Definitely put Howard on that list and I think Tunsil is overpaid too. Tunsil is one of the best when he's not hurt, but he's an idiot with all his false starts. Nobody comes close to all the stupid penalties and that's huge when it makes us end up putting away. No, of course I don't think Nico and Mixon are wasted money. Our offensive line is in the bottom tier of the league and that's on our GM and coaches for their choices of players, and on whoever thinks Slowik is a great offensive coach.

Tunsil is a top tier LT and is paid like it. His false start penalties haven't cost them any games. The biggest issue is, was Green, and Scruggs haven't played much NFL football. Whoever is making the ol calls, be it Scruggs or Stroud is doing a terrible job. That's what's gotta get cleaned up. Kendrick and Patterson will be upgrades only because they can't be worse.

If we are going to believe what is posted by his team. I'd put the guy around 200-205 tops and he probably dips below that during a football season. I've never been a fan of the little guys in the NFL. I know the history of optimal size conversations and all that jazz when it comes to the RB position, but I still want a RB who is 6 feet (for pass protection and pass catching) and about 225/230 to make it through an NFL season let alone a career.

    https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/59...-draft-2025-quarterbacks-sanders-ward-hunter/

    1. Jacksonville Jaguars: Travis Hunter, WR/CB, Colorado
    2. Las Vegas Raiders: Cam Ward, QB, Miami
    3. New York Giants: Shedeur Sanders, QB, Colorado
    4. New England Patriots: Will Campbell, OT/G, LSU
    5. Carolina Panthers: Abdul Carter, Edge, Penn State.
    6. New York Jets: Jalon Walker, LB/Edge, Georgia
    7. Tennessee Titans: Mykel Williams, Edge, Georgia
    8. Cleveland Browns: Mason Graham, DT, Michigan
    9. Cincinnati Bengals: Will Johnson, CB, Michigan
    10. New Orleans Saints: Tetairoa McMillan, WR, Arizona
    11. Chicago Bears: Kelvin Banks Jr., OT/G, Texas
    12. Miami Dolphins: Malaki Starks, S, Georgia
    13. Dallas Cowboys: Luther Burden III, WR, Missouri
    14. San Francisco 49ers: Derrick Harmon, DT, Oregon
    15. Indianapolis Colts: Shavon Revel Jr., CB, East Carolina
    16. Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Shemar Stewart, DL, Texas A&M
    17. Los Angeles Rams: Aireontae Ersery, OT, Minnesota
    18. Arizona Cardinals: Walter Nolen, DT, Ole Miss
    19. Atlanta Falcons: James Pearce Jr., Edge, Tennessee
    20. Seattle Seahawks: Josh Conerly Jr., OT, Oregon
    21. Washington Commanders: Ashton Jeanty, RB, Boise State
    22. Houston Texans: Tyler Booker, G, Alabama

The Texans will make it a priority this offseason to improve the interior of their offensive line, and selecting Booker would be one way of doing that. The Alabama mauler is a powerful blocker with enough athleticism to handle what Houston likes to do on offense.

    23. Denver Broncos: Tyler Warren, TE, Penn State
    24. Baltimore Ravens: Kenneth Grant, DT, Michigan
    25. Los Angeles Chargers: Kaleb Johnson, RB, Iowa
    26. Pittsburgh Steelers: Maxwell Hairston, CB, Kentucky
    27. Green Bay Packers: Landon Jackson, Edge, Arkansas
    28. Minnesota Vikings: Marcus Mbow, OT/G, Purdue
    29. Philadelphia Eagles: Cameron Williams, OT, Texas
    30. Buffalo Bills: Mike Green, Edge, Marshall
    31. Kansas City Chiefs: Alfred Collins, DT, Texas
    32. Detroit Lions: Jihaad Campbell, LB, Alabama

I'm not sure I want a first round lineman since we cant see to figure that out.

DT or CB would be ideal for me. Unless, it's one of those Texas guys. I'm bias!

Basing off availability from the above, Alfred Collins and Maxwell Hairston would be my target. I'm also a height/weight/speed type of guy.

I hear you but OG is above and beyond the weakest position and usually good ones slide on draft day. I’d draft the best one available and sign one in FA. Will Fries and Trey Smith are the best according to PFF.

Hell nah. Aren’t Bama linemen overrated anyway? Dare I say BUSTS, at least for the ones taken in the first round. Take best player available with the first and as many IOL Big 10 cornfed white boys as you can in the later rounds. No more SEC ‘athletic maulers’. Smart and Mean should be the OL traits we prioritize.

Would love Trey (wanted him in 21 draft), but he will probably reset the market on OG pay this off-season (~4 yrs, $85M)

I remember seeing an interview that some scout or assistant coach was adamant the Oilers pick Jerry Rice, as he was the best wide receiver he’d ever seen. Problem was that Rice was from a small school and the Oilers in their infinite wisdom went a different way. The scout or coach was so distraught the Oilers didn’t heed his advice he either resigned or retired.

When the Oilers were going to draft Steve McNair who was from a small school, the story was rehashed so as the Oilers didn’t botch another draft.

As much as I liked Ray Childress, Jerry Rice was on a whole different stratosphere…. but anyone can say the Texans still got a he’ll if a good player in Childress. However, The Oilers drafting some random CB, some 5 picks before Rice was finally taken by the 49’ers was a slap in the face of said scout.

I’d do it. There’s no other glaring weaknesses and the clock is ticking on Strouds rookie deal. Push all the chips in for next year.

If the draft fell this way I'm picking Tyler Warren TE Penn St. and trading up for Wyatt Milum OT/OG West Virginia..

If Caserio picks Booker then I hope he trades up for Colston Loveland TE Michigan.

Could my memory have been short circuited by my aging brain? I went back and read the history you seem to be correct! Thanks Buck.

It seems that all scouts were disparaging on Rice. But it was Walsh while in Houston, was watching TV and the late evening news, that he first saw Jerry Rice score 4 TD against TCU, at which point the 49’rs started figuring out how high they needed to go to select him in the draft.

So perhaps what I remembered hearing was how the Oilers should not blow an opportunity to draft a generational talent, just because they went to a division II school. And the whole Jerry Rice story came into relevance and how the Oilers passed on Jerry Rice twice….

I attached the article for context. Good and fun read.
