It absolutely is his fault. He's obsessed with these pointless tournaments: play-in, mid-season and now all-star. Just keep it East vs. West, normal ass game. I'd rather watch 48 min of stars goofing off and trying crazy **** than this format any day. All we need to do to make it more competitive is give the winning team like $1 million each. There was nothing wrong with the traditional format, just the competitiveness. The last few normal format games were way more fun that this **** and the last few years since they started picking teams.
Aside from the format, another thing about All Star Weekend that rubs me the wrong way is how commodified it is. Other posters have called out the obscene amount of ads during the event, but that doesn't include the ads littered throughout the court: Starry balls, another Kia ad disguised as a dunk prop, etc. It all sucks. Adam Silver has MBA-ified the league into a tacky billboard. The jerseys, the contrasting jersey ads, the digital court ads, the arena logo ads, and the Michelob baseline ads all suck. Years ago, before I came to enjoy the sport, I used to make fun of soccer for plastering ads on their jerseys. But the trade off there is that the clock never stops and the game is always two hours. Silver's on-court product now looks like a 2000s PC with malware and there are more stoppages than ever.
I was bored out of my mind watching this. They need to kill all star weekend, but I get that they won't due to revenue.
