From Rotoworld: "Carlos Correa (illness) is not in the starting lineup on Wednesday against the Red Sox. Correa was removed from Tuesday’s game against the Red Sox after feeling lightheaded, and Brooks Lee promptly replaced him and hit two home runs. Lee will start at shortstop and bat second on Wednesday with Correa on the bench. We should also note that Correa has been linked to the Astros with the trade deadline looming, so there’s a chance that he has played his last game for the Twins."-- 26m ago
If this happens, they ARE going over the CBT which is fine. However, they will almost certainly need to find a way to reset next year. Lots of $$$ coming off the books but probably not enough with Correa and arbitration raises. Makes an offseason Yordan trade even more likely.
Right or wrong - I don’t like going for Cease. I feel everyone returning for pitching can hold it down.
Yordan is kind of cheap on the books though??? I think the league realizes that his hand is made of glass. I could not imagine a big return. Isn't Jabreau coming off the books this year??
Or it could be getaway day lol If both Matthews and Melton are in a Correa deal they better throw in Griffin Jax or be oaying a ton of Carlos' deal. Seriously though. They probably just want both Caratini and Diaz in the lineup and sit Melton vs a LHSP and Altuve needs to play 2B with Gusto on the mound.
Not for certain. Current CBT payroll for 2026 is ~$120M before arbitration salaries, which leaves about $110M. Arb class estimates: Dubon $7M (non-tender candidate) Abreu $6M Garcia $2.5M Okert $2M Paredes $8M Pena $7M Meyers $4M Brown $9M Yainer $5M McCormick $4M (non-tender candidate) So that’s about $50M give or take. Leaves ~$60M for Correa and any other salaries they take on (backup C and ToR SP would be the needs)
But they only have Framber, Caratini and Rodgers as FA on this roster. Thats $26M which would basically cover Correa's AAV within $1-2M after the money Minnesota throws in is calculated Then you have Abreu's $19,5M, and what's left of Pressy's and Montero's deal coming off the books ($14Mish if my math is right) So: However much they are under now + $3M CBT increase next year + approx $33.5 M coming off books Minus whatever Correa makes For arbitration raises and spending in 2026.
Well at least he didn't break a rib. If the Stros trade for Correa they will have 2 SS who've experienced broken ribs. We never found out who Correa's masseuse was, I want to avoid that masseuse at all costs.
They're probably negotiating how much money the Twins are going to eat. Otherwise a deal would probably already be done.
feels like a similar situation could be brewing like what happened with Green Bay Packers with David Bakhatari (pro bowl/HoF calibur LT). He had torn ACL back in Dec 2020. Got surgery and everything but knee inflammation and so much fluid had to be drained several times from 2021-2023. He played one or two games then go on IL due to too much fluid in the knee. Been out of the NFL for a couple seasons now. Hope that's not the case with Yordan.
https://www.mlb.com/astros/news/astros-carlos-correa-reunion-possibility Full on article on the official site about trading for Correa, if this deal isn’t already on the finish line the Astros are setting themselves up for a fan revolt. My speculation is that they are just waiting for today’s early games to be done so that there is no hug watch and neither team has to potentially play a man down.
The inf if everybody is healthy should be. 1B Walker 2B Correa SS Pena 3B Pena That's an elite defensive inf.
I think the hope would be he can skip ST, play most days in April and May, rest on the IL as needed in Jun and July, then commit to playing full time (in pain) starting in mid-August thru the playoffs. But my guess is this current contract represents his remaining career.
Or the bone could heal properly over the offseason and Alvarez could never have this issue again would be the more likely outcome.
Maybe. Hopefully. Not likely since he’s already tried that; the issue predates this season and a full offseason of rest last year didn’t fix it.
This is pretty likely. And with the Astros still considering Suarez and Arenado (smokescreen?) and Correa's no trade eliminating all competition, Jim Crane is in a good negotiating position.
