Serious question: Are you a relatively new fan of the Astros or MLB in general? You don't seem to have the general understanding of how MLB contracts work. Jeremy Pena is not a free agent until 2028. He will be back with the Astros for at least 2 more years unless he is traded. The Astros would certainly receive assets in return. Short is not part of the Astros future plan at SS. He is older than Pena. There is a lot of good info on this board. Look up Snake's thread on 5 year outlook if you are interested in thr future of the Astros.

If we are not selling and kinda staying pat I did set my bar as high as Cedric Mullins. Get him and great. I know we need 5 bats but we are not going over luxury tax and we don't have trade capital.

People being on fence with Mullins I don't get. He's better than Jake on D, better bat and lefty. Was it monday's game against Toronto v LHP. Like 10 pitch at bat and sac fly. Had like 340avg with bases loaded b4 that AB. Youtube is full of his, not the soft diving people do to make it look great, jumping from full speed and catching unreal ones in the gap. The standing next to wall and jumping upwards homerun robbery is nothing in difficulty compared. But he does those too.

Prob others will pay more, but would be happy to get him.

Your combination of blinding arrogance and indisputable factual inaccuracies really is quite impressive.

As I said, we can explain it to you, but we can’t understand it for you.

I realize that if you duck tape AW to the deal it’s negative value, but we eat that to hold onto Ullola if it’s just getting rid of the bad presence and a couple rentals.

A very surprising lack of completed trades so far. I’m assuming it’s gonna be a crazy next 36 hours; if there are going to be anywhere near the number of trades as a normal year then there should be ~20 trades completed each of the next 2 days. A hypothetical 4-way trade to end all trades:

    Astros get:
    SS Carlos Correa
    SP Dylan Cease
    CF Cedric Mullins
    RP Adrian Morejon
    $22M from Twins

    Orioles get:
    P Jose Fleury
    IF Rosman Verdugo

    Twins get:
    P Colton Gordon
    P Miguel Ullola
    IF Shay Whitcomb
    OF Kai Roberts

    Padres get:
    P Spencer Arrighetti
    C Yainer Diaz
    P Shawn Dubin
    P Ethan Pecko
    OF Chas McCormick

Astros and Jim Crane push all their chips in and go way over the tax and stack their roster. Padres get big league ready players. Twins get out from Correa’s contract and get usable pieces. Orioles get an org top 20 prospect for a middling rental. This trade is pretty realistic…it just requires Jim Crane to spend an extra $30M he wasn’t planning on spending. Astros playoff roster:

    CF Mullins
    SS Pena
    2B Altuve
    DH Alvarez
    3B Correa
    1B Walker
    C Caratini
    RF Smith
    LF Melton
    Bench: Dubon, Salazar, Matthews, Trammell
    SP: Framber, Brown, Cease, Javier
RP: Hader, Abreu, Morejon, King, Sousa, Okert, Garcia, McCullers, Gusto

Offseason needs would be resigning Caratini and finding a ToR SP.

Don’t understand the Arenado logic. His bat is clearly washed up and his only value is his play at 3B. Where would Paredes play next season if they did that?

Awful lot of smoke around Correa this morning. I doubt it would have gotten to Nightengale if it wasn’t serious.

Same question if we get Correa. Almost seems like Matthews would have to be a part of a trade and Paredes plays 2nd.

I do not think they are trading Brice Matthews for a Correa rental.

Yeah and this is the second time that “Bonda” dude got a legit scoop. He was on the Verlander trade a couple years back too weeks before it happened.
