I mean- it say hypothetical trades and someone came up with a 17 player exchange the other day, so… Everything we do on this site is just mental masterbation anyway. the astros would not do all of that if in contention, but they might do 1 or 2 pieces of it.
I mean- I’m super high on Arrighetti and I like Dezenzo as well so if I was the cardinals I’d absolutely in a heartbeat do Arrighetti, Dezenzo and Fleury for Donovan. I’d probably do it straight up for Arrighetti if I were them. If I’m the Astros I’d rather trade Framber than Arrighetti or Fleury, because the control is less and the return is probably more. if Arrighetti comes back and he’s awesome for a month while LmJ and Garcia are pitching and Javier is ready then Arrighetti would be one of the best trade chips to a seller in baseball. I’d keep him though the same way I said protect Hunter brown at all costs last 2 years and was quite frankly offended by the rays asking for him for Paredes.
I just thought it was funny, first sentence - last sentence That's all. Don't read too much into anything, Especially anything I say
I wasn’t pissy about it. It’s true that it’s all pointless. I just like talking about it, thinking and writing.
It’s dumb to be a sports fan. 99% of teams don’t end the year in a dogpile. And it’s pointless. But I still like it. Its quality time with friend and family and makes new friends.
As of now, this team still has World Series aspirations. Anyone who projects to be a starting 9 position player, top 4 SP or top 4 relief pitcher absolutely can not be traded. YET. Anyone outside of that group absolutely can be, but projection to bring among that group next year, or the following, etc will determine if they should and their value. Caratini is the only position player outside of that group. Chas, Dubon, Dezenzo, Meyers, and Rodgers all could still end up the best position player at any particular position. The pitching staff is actually deep and talented enough that I could see a world where anyone outside of Brown, Abreu, and Hader could be on the outside looking in. Obviously injury could keep them out too, but short of that those 3 are all but cemented. The biggest value Framber brings is that over 162 games, anytime he takes the mound he is very likely to pitch 6+ innings and keep the team in the game. 180+ inning pitchers are rare in today's game and a huge advantage in getting to October. That skill isn't nearly as important once the post season starts. There is a world where Brown, McCullers, and Arrighetti outpitch Framber the next 3 months, making him no higher than the 4th best starter in the rotation. If that happens, I think there is also a world where one of Blanco, Wesneski, Gusto, Blubaugh, or Garcia also outpitches him, or at least is close enough that Framber can be traded without serious impact to the World Series chances. Javier could also, easily, earn a top 4 pist season rotation spot. If they could get a top 50 and top 100 prospect, or equivalent in young controllable players (preferably a 2b and CF or SP) I would gamble and trade Framber away now. If they could get a legitimate 2b prospect, I would trade Caratini, Meyers OR McCormick, Rodgers, Dubon, Ort, Okert, Sousa, VanWey, or Scott right now on a heartbeat.
This is literally the most ignorant post I have ever seen. You suggest Lance freaking McCullers and Luis Garcia are worthy of playoff starts. Not even the Lance McCullers of early 2020s. Much less the Lance McCullers of 2017. 8 years ago. Lol. Oh and the Luis Garcia of his potential, not his result. GTFO of here with this hypothetical fantasy bs. Ignorance is bliss. No, ignorance is you.
So you- a new member who has made 3 total posts come in here calling me ignorant? Go F yourself. I'm not wasting any more time because your disrespect and intolerance is not worthy of any more time. Goodbye- ignore.
Still seems pretty simple to me: Swap Dezenzo and Arrighetti for a 2B Swap Framber for prospects to improve the farm. Swap Blubaugh for a lesser rental SP. Playoff roster: SS Pena LF Altuve DH Alvarez 3B Paredes 2B TBD 1B Walker C Diaz RF Smith CF Meyers Bench: Dubon, Caratini, McCormick, Salazar SP: Brown, McCullers, TBD, Blanco RP: Hader, Abreu, King, Okert, Javier, Whitley, Sousa, Gusto, Wesneski
What I would say is they can trade Framber or Arrighetti, but not both. Brown, Framber, Blanco, and Arrighetti were the unquestioned top 4 starters coming into the season. I would be shocked ( and frustrated) if they traded away 2 of those guys.
Over the last year, Caratini has matched Diaz's bat and is a better defensive catcher. Diaz plays more so he'll put up better overall stats, but per plate appearance, I don't know who will be better the rest of the year (assuming Diaz keeps getting his mojo back and deserves to compete with Caratini).
Blanco might have been the #4 guy coming in, but that was a pretty tenuous #4. I would not have him rated qualitatively different than Garcia (if he becomes healthy), Blubaugh, Wesneski, (now Gusto) or a host of other guys. He's a MOR to BOR guy and the Astros have a ton of those- so- if he's 1 of the 2 getting traded I'm not sweating it or bothered.
Caratini is a veteran journeyman who is a FA at the end of the year. Yes, he had a great year, for a catcher, last year and has been fine this year. But with Diaz being the catcher if the new and future, and everyday starters at any other position the could be used to get him playing time, he is a luxury this team can't afford. He is a waste of payroll. Couple that with the fact that he will not get offered a QA so the Astros will, quite literally, lose him for nothing this offseason. He is a trade asset that Dana Brown absolutely should he using to improve this team and/or organization.
I agree his position was quite tenuous. But this team only had 4 healthy starters with any sort of proven success over a full season as of opening day. You and I agree that he is perfectly fine as a BOR guy, but would never depend on him being a MOR guy and expect to compete. I wish they would trade him now but the other teams are all smart, too, and won't overpay for him. That makes him just as valuable here until Arrighetti and/or Garcia get healthy, and/or the young guys have more of a track record.
Quoted for truth and I would trade him only if I could get a player of similar quality in the same situation at a position of need.
