Gotta give to get. Just like last year I think most of us are gonna be surprised at who Houston trades away.
Why are we trying to make 11 games mean something for Robert Jr.? The sample size is far, far too small. And he didn't face a single SP in that stretch with an ERA below 4. Except Lauer of the Blue Jays, who held him hitless.
You are the one that gave the 6/25/25 date. Not me. I just gave you his totals during the time frame you used to say they were equal.
Every time I see him throw Ullola in a deal I want to throw **** and break things. Ullola should absolutely positively not be in any deal (nor Arrighetti) for anyone that isn’t an all star with control after this year. Hes very very important to this orgs long term health. I absolutely believe we will turn him into something good at a minimum and chance at special. No way for a rental.
Because we all know he’s got all the skills to be awesome. He was awesome when Chicago was good. He stopped being awesome when Chicago became a joke. He’s like the epitome of change of scenery probably changes everything.
Calmer than you are dude. And so this doesn’t degenerate I typed that laughing as a movie quote- it’s a joke I typed the entire thing with a smile on my face it was a joke. I mean- I’m serious that I wouldn’t trade him for like 98% of the deals you throw him in on, but I’m not actually throwing things or breaking ****.
On a serious note/ guys I would include Ullola or Arrighetti in a deal for: Kwan Brandon Donovan Lars Nuutbar Luis Robert Jr. Lowe Maybe Mullins and O’Hearn of they were a package. That’s both rentals but it solves two problems and they’d be the only piece for those guys (not both- only 1. I mean- if you need to throw in Gordon or France to make the deal work sure) I think that’s it. I sort of don’t expect any of those guys to get traded. That’s the list. I’m not saying either of those guys would get any of those deals done by themselves or anything but that’s the caliber of player I’d want back with control.
JV and 4M (that makes the astros on the hook for 1M for rest of the season and keeps them under the CBT) for Gordon. Who says no?
Astros do... you don't give up 5 years of control on a player you drafted in the 8th round. https://www.baseballprospectus.com/player/121919/colton-gordon/ 2024 “Colton” first appeared in the Social Security Administration’s database of popular baby names in 1982, when it ranked 799th nationwide. By 1998, when Gordon was born, it had surged all the way to 106th; as any teacher can tell you, it’s stayed relatively popular ever since. MLB registered its first Colton in 2015 and has since added two more to the ledger. Will Gordon be the fourth? Working in his favor: good command; a low release point combined with a flat fastball approach angle; and a sweeping slider that ties lefty hitters into knots. Working against him: pedestrian velocity and lots of time on the shelf owing to the pandemic and 2021 Tommy John surgery. Now healthy, he’s making up for lost time, though he uncharacteristically struggled to throw strikes in his first taste of Triple-A. He’ll go as far as his deception can take him, making him a likely back-end starter or lefty reliever. 2023 Many players struggle with control upon their return from Tommy John surgery. Underslot 2021 draftee Colton Gordon seems to be managing alright. He averaged under a walk per start while dominating with his deceptive heater in his pro debut.
Lots of guys have "the skills to be awesome" in theory. His exit velos suck, his K% sucks, doesn't make good contact, chases too much. Statcast is super blue except he's fast and has a quick bat. Baseball is more than those two things. He's the MLB version of Cam Whitmore except Cam is 20 and this dude turns 28 in a week and makes $15m. At least the 20 year old has youth as an excuse. "Potential" means little - he finished 2nd in ROY a long time ago. The guy who beat him was traded for Cooper Hummell and has now been retired for two seasons.
Ok. I bet when he goes to a contender he becomes the stud he’s fully capable of being. Some people need to be in the right place to do well. I think he’d kill it in Houston.
LRJ is the first guy I've known who's gone Operation Shutdown since Derek Bell. If he's chosen to suck because he doesn't like his team, he's cost himself millions. Because I don't think the White Sox or anyone else pick up those options. He'll be a free agent next season and sign somewhere for a quarter of the price.
I agree with that - but I will be surprised that Ullola is dealt for a rental unless the Astros are convinced that he will never throw strikes. He just recently turned 23 years old, he is striking out almost 1.5 hitters an inning - guys do not hit home runs off him, they do not hit him well at all and he has his era at a manageable level. He literally does everything very well except he walks too many guys. He walks more guys than guys that get hits off of him. His fastball is devastating.
Worst case scenario I think he ends up in the bullpen and could be a very good leverage arm. Bryan Abreu struggled to throw strikes in the minors - he has been very valuable for us as a cost controlled leverage arm.
