I would give up Melton/Matthews for Kelly.

How long is Kelly under contract?

    WTF?

He's a 36 yo pending FA coming off a shoulder injury who is solid but never great.

No la hace, it sure looks like we'll be shopping for bats now as priority 1

I'd love to get him, but yall are way, way overvaluing this dude

Didn't realize he's in the last yr of his contract.

    Something like Whitcomb/Cole/Santos

Kelly is pitching very well this year.

3.37 ERA across 200 IP in 2022, 3.29 ERA in 177 IP in 2023 and this season he’s made every start and has a 3.18 ERA. He also was dominate during the DBacks WS run. That’s more than solid. That’s a SP2 that can start in the playoffs for you.

Look what Kikuchi cost us and he hadn’t been anywhere near the pitcher Merrill Kelly has been.

It’s going to cost more than that.

They're only 4ish out of the WC, who the hell knows if they'll be sellers at all

    Kikuchi didn't cost us ****

This was my point earlier when I was told "we can't afford to trade for good players"
    ....
Ok..now tell me about his shoulder injury. I'm serious. Go do some research.

I'll give you a start: he was activated from the 60-day IL on August 11 of last year

He's made every start this season and has already thrown 82 innings. Why are you talking about a shoulder injury last year that clearly hasn't impacted him this season? He's a rental...it has zero impact on his value the rest of the season.

Jake Bloss was a fringe top 100 prospect who was on the rise. Dana did a great job building his value up and selling him at the right time. Who do we have that we can offer the DBacks that fits that description right now? And once again...Merrill Kelly has been significantly better than Kikuchi until we traded for him.

    Awesome!

So who do you give up for him? I'm assuming we can't trade Jake Bloss again?

Guess for Kelly cost is it would be 3 prospects from a group including Baez, Blubaugh, Sullivan, Pecko, Jaworsky, Gomez, Whitcomb, and Bello. I think Matthews, Melton, Janek, Brito, and Ullola will probably be off limits for a non superstar rental.

I mean I’d for sure give up Melton and Gordon. I agree with you I wouldn’t include Matthews too though.

I’d give up Melton for Kelly in a heartbeat. He’s about to be 25 in a couple months and still lacks the hit tool. Don’t have huge hopes for him but that’s just me.

Pretty much every team in the race could use Kelly. They’d have to REALLY like some of those guys you’ve named to choose them over what other teams with deeper farms can offer.

They basically gave him away. This really is like a swap for Chas.

I guess somebody in the Brewers brass is in mad love with Vaughn; dude was the #3 overall pick, so he’s for sure a high ceiling player, and if he’s optioned long enough they will have him for 2 more seasons. Hoskins is a free agent after this season so if they fix Vaughn this season and he is their starting 1B for 2026-2027 that’s a very good trade for them. It’s just hard to see how Vaughn will get fixed, because he’s got a pretty long track record of mediocrity.

Astros have their own former #3 pick still taking time. I'm sure we'll get him fixed up anytime now. :D

Yeah, I don’t get it either. They weren’t going to get more than a lotto ticket for him anyway though - if they think there’s any chance they can fix Vaughn I guess it’s worth the risk.

Sure. Felt the same way about Hunter brown. Looking good there.
still waiting on the Forrest Whitley to prove prophetic.
