If that's true And we go over to keep framber next year , I feel like next year with better health luck we can be even better !
Sooo this is the non-existent risk/high reward moves... even if Correa is 70% of what he was... it would be worth it.
The irony of the White Sox getting butt hurt is Jack McDowell came out and said they had a camera in the outfield when he played and it was nothing new. La Russa was aware and let it go.
This deal was aggressively humiliating for Minnesota. Matt Mikulski, the prospect going to the Twins, was released by the Giants earlier this year. The Astros signed him as a minor league free agent and he threw 15.1 awful innings in the lower levels for Houston.
Yeah, we called their bluff. They clearly wanted to shed payroll and we had them by the balls since Correa told them Houston or nothing. So their options were keep Correa, suck and pay him the entire amount or suck but save $22M a year...
Poverty franchise I'm glad they didn't , but I think they could've kept him and moved him in the off-season Correa is competitive and probably would have opened up his option to get dafuq out of Minnesota
One aspect of the deadline that cannot be understated: we acquired an elite, top-end talent (who is an also a known commodity when the lights are brightest). We are clearly in no position to sign these types players on the market with our limits. Nor can we really draft them in the back end of the first round, and we are not in a position to land a top 5 pick (thank god). The fact that we landed a star is huge. Getting a player of Correa’s caliber, and having him under contract for the foreseeable future, is a blessing. He has his concerns but so do all players, and frankly, this year has remidned me that a team of full Whitcombs and above-avg replacement level players in not going to cut it. You need stars to win in this league at the highest level. Our talent development has been out of this world, but there are only so many international signees we can pull out of our hat.
The biggest cherry on top for me would've been getting Houser to eat up some innings at a very low cost. He's been pitching out of his mind this year.
I checked out a Twins message board. Before the trade the posters there were hoping to get Brice Mathews for Correa. They are not impressed with Mikulski. They are having a very bad day.
