I agree with this. As just a fan who likes to think he has good general baseball and slightly less financial knowledge, expecting Min to eat $50M feels too much. That gets the AAV under $16M Unless this is Crane thinking he has them cornered and they have no options. I trust Crane's negotiating skills and he usually gets his man. Maybe a last minute drop to $36M gets it done? Surely Crane feels $20M AAV is reasonable? Must have an impact bat, though I really don't want a repeat of 2024 - coming away with Gamel and Heyward
I agree, but I also think this gives clarity that maybe Meyers isn’t going to be ready which is why Houston asked for an outfielder. I have to think something will get done. Maybe not with the Twins, but there is more to this imo.
This all could be negotiations. But Larnach would have made sense as a LH corner OF bat, especially if Houston trades Melton.
Better buckle up. My guess is it is either a few minor moves like 2024 or a drastic overpay. I have faith in Brown as a talent evaluator, not as a GM/deal maker.
Kris Bubic is out for the season with a rotator cuff strain. There’s no reason for the Astros to acquire him now.
How does adding a corner OF help if Melton is traded? Wouldn't we need a CF? Unless they really want to keep Trammell in CF (but they replace him late defensively with Chaz/Melton as it is).
My work picked a bad day to block twitter links from Clutch Fans. Cell phone it is for the rest of the day.
We don’t now Meyers timetable. But yes, adding a LF puts Altuve at 2B and some combo of Meyers, Trammell, McCormick, and Dubon in CF.
In addition to the #3 prospect in baseball the Padres are also sending their #3 prospect in their farm system in the Miller deal along with two other prospects. Crazy.
I’m just posting this. Doesn’t mean anything other than what we expected. SD is going ask try and ask for a lot now with their move for Cease.
As much as new ownership may want a clean balance sheet , they probably also don't want the reputation of selling their one recent star acquisition for pennies on the dollar Now if we are giving them Matthews , Ullola, other top prospects then the ask for big money is fair
I actually don't mind an overpay ( according to my values) that's expected at the trade deadline. When a team has a legitimate chance 2/3 of the way into the season you must go for it. Deal with 2026 after the W.S. ends.
