Sure did take him a long time to see that open highway to cut back in at the 2:05 mark. I hate this pick, I hate the trade up and I hate that there were better backs still on the board.
4th in the SEC in 2021 with 83 receptions is pretty impressive. Top tier receiver out of the backfield.
He doesn't strike me as a change of pace from Mixon so much as a guy who can do what Mixon does when Mixon isn't in the game.
Mixon is 6'1" 230 and Marks is 5'10" and 207. I don't see Marks lowering his shoulder and punishing tacklers like Mixon. I believe he's more like a JK Dobbins, quick cuts and acceleration to slither through the defense.
He wouldn't have been my pick. How many touches will he get? Are we done with Dameon Pearce? Should we have used his pick on promising guard prospect or maybe a DL or a coverage linebacker for 3rd and long?
I liked the pick from the standpoint it was needed and if this is Caley's guy then he deserves his opportunity. I liked other backs much better, but in this range or with our 97th pick I would have loved Skattebo. I know he's not fast, but his vision, footwork, and ability to bull through tacklers was really fun to watch. Also believed he'd play like swarm on steroids. Tuten was the other guy I really liked at 97. His speed would have been gamechanger for our backfield.
That and trading a future 3rd to move up. Skatt does what Marks does well (receiving) and is in another stratosphere as a runner. Tires and Smith as well. I don’t think they needed to move up to get Marks honestly.
Doesn't really matter what we think. They identified Marks as the guy they wanted and gave up the assets it took to get him. In short they think more of Marks (Who I think is a solid RB) than you or I do.
For every time you dog the team for missing out on a guy, by having a team trade up in front of them a spot, you have to give them props for being willing to move up and get their guy. I like that our front office operates with conviction during the draft. For better or worse.
