Everyone knows that this guy would be available later...what this post presupposes is...maybe he wasn't?
Depends on how good the guy turns out to be. It surprises me that your looking at things this way. With the success Caserio/Ryans had last yr drafting DB's I would've thought you would've been excited by this pick. Remember how down the scouting community was down on Lassiter and Bullock? That turned out very well.
I hate the trade up 5 spots. The 49ers ended up taking a CB at pick 100, so maybe the Texans felt like the 49ers would of taken Jaylin Smith if available.
I watched some film on him after they picked him and I just wasn't impressed. Just don't see ot despite the success we've had with the secondary. Like I said they obviously see something that I don't and I hope I'm wrong. I don't doubt our talent evaluation. I wasn't down on either of those two picks but I know the general consensus was not positive. Bullock and Lassiter were much more impressive on film
ST player with the 97th pick but he is super close with Bullock! https://www.houstonchronicle.com/sp...fl-draft-day-2-trades-iowa-state-20294706.php Smith said he is close with Texans safety Calen Bullock, who apparently attended his draft party. The two players played three seasons together at USC. Smith, who is 5-11 and 187 pounds, will likely be primarily used on special teams, though. “(Special teams coordinator) Frank (Ross) thinks he can have an opportunity with the kicking game with his speed and toughness to maybe help us on the perimeter, whether it’s on punt coverage or kickoff coverage,” Caserio said.
I know nothing about the player except for his position. There were other players I'd prefer, so I'm not a fan of the pick. I do admit my bias since I don't know anything about him
