The Rangers announced that offensive coordinator Donnie Ecker has been fired after three-plus seasons in his role. “After lengthy discussions and deliberations, we feel now is the appropriate time to provide our hitters with a new voice as we pursue goals of winning the division and reaching the postseason,” Texas president of baseball operations Chris Young said in the team’s press release. “We are extremely grateful to Donnie for all that he has accomplished here with the Rangers, including his role in the club’s 2023 World Series championship. We wish him the best.”
Of anyone missed the Crush City podcast from yesterday there was a glorious moment. Chandler was asking Josh Reddick about the Rangers hiring Bret Boone as new " offensive coordinator" He said when he was with Oakland, he was on a rehab assignment and scuffling quite a bit and Bret Boone was a roving instructor. Apparently Boone walked up and said " the next time you get that slider, why don't you just put it over the left field fence?" Josh's answer was "I can't take that stuff you guys used to take " Chandler went on your say Boone was hosting a podcast and Texas came out of left field offering him this job without any applying, interviewing, or even asking/wanting the position. Reddick went on to say he doubts Boone will even look at analytics and will just be an old fashioned on their ass hardass.
Wow, Colorado can not pick higher than 10th in the draft. Imagine losing 120 games and not getting a top pick.
How does this happen? Just let the Dodgers and Yankees pick 1st and 2nd every year and be done with the facade.
Essentially making it impossible for low revenue orgs to gather enough talent to to compete with the Dodgers/Yankees/Red Sox etc... Manfred must really be doing everything in his power to never have a small/mid market team to be able to never build a dynasty again. I'll call this the Luhnow effect. Why not just do away with about 20 franchises so every team will have a chance to compete for championships?
It's not all Manfred. It's the MLBPA too. They want to add rules to force owners to spend money and keep veterans over prospects.
