https://baseballsavant.mlb.com/player-scroll/game?gamePk=779660&player_id=676467#power_sets Gordon threw 6 different pitches but 90%+ were FB and slider last night. His FB sat 91 and was only hit hard 1 time in 24 pitches. Based solely on that outing he looks like he’d be a great 2 inning middle reliever.
McCullers gave up 2 runs in the 2nd but it wasn’t that bad, went single, walk, double, then got out of it.
Brandon Walter tossed 3 no-hit innings after McCullers in today’s AAA game. He only needed 39 pitches and only had one hard hit ball. His FB is only 91 so not sure how he’s being so effective but his cutter fills the zone and generates weak contact. I’m assuming Aaron Brown took Gusto’s rotation spot and he and Walter will be a SP going forward.
I really don't care about results in the PCL. As Long as he is progressing in pitches thrown and remains healthy.
They must have saw something about him to sign him with his injury last season. Miller and crew are amazing at unlocking potential. He has interesting slot angle from a left hander. Almost side arm
Looking at Jayden Murray’s appearance from last week has som encouraging signs. His FB sat 94 across 3 innings and he was pretty efficient. Not sure if he’s being developed as a tandem SP or multi inning RP or single inning RP who was able to go 3 by chance. He also had several pitches that basically didn’t move and were right down the middle but he didn’t get hit hard. It looks like he has a release grouping that makes if hard to pick up which pitch he’s thrown. He’s worth following because there’s got to be a reason they’ve held on to him this long despite being hurt so much.
They traded a pretty good player for him like 3-4 years ago because the M&M pitching guys liked him. I agree with you, there must be something about him that they really believe in.
Agreed. Of course I thought the same about Valente Bellozo getting traded, and he is looking pretty good in Miami’s rotation.
The Astros made a free agent signing last week: OF Drew Brutcher hit 40 home runs in four years at South Florida (4th all-time) but he wasn't drafted, and he didn't catch on with any other teams. So, he went to the indies and hit .363/.480/.605 with 6 homers and 25 RBI in 35 games with Ogden in the Pioneer League. Brutcher was assigned to Fayetteville. He's played all three outfield spots, with the vast majority of his playing time coming in RF.
Kenedy Corona hit a HR last night. He’s a very high ceiling player so it’d be great to get some found money out of him. 30 SB, 20 HR and elite CF defense are all within his MLB ceiling.
AA team had an exhibition that went well: CORPUS CHRISTI - As a final tune-up for the regular season, the Hooks belted six home runs in a 20-0 triumph over Texas A&M-Kingsville before 2,565 fans Wednesday night at Whataburger Field. Corpus Christi's 17-hit output included a grand slam by Miguel Palma as well as a three-run shot by Anthony Sherwin. Ryan Wrobleski, Austin Deming and Luis Encarnacion struck solo homers, with Colin Barber setting the tone via a two-run blast in the first. Jackson Nezuh made the start for the Hooks, who were sporting their new home-white uniforms. After working around a first-inning error, Nezuh permitted just two hits until his exit with one out in the fifth. The 23-year-old from St. Cloud, Florida struck out six and did not issue a walk. Meanwhile, Alejandro Torres closed the fifth by fanning both batters he faced. Joey Mancini turned in an electric performance out of the bullpen, striking out eight against only two singles over four innings to finish the friendly.
Shay Whitcomb with a two-homer night for Sugar Land, while Colton Gordon allowed two hits, walked two, and struck out four over 5.1 shutout innings.
