Bregs doesn't get benched because he's really good defensively. I'm OK with this, but he shouldn't be batting cleanup. He needs to be batting 7th or so until he can figure things at the plate out.
Bagwell knows Abreu isn’t ready, he just got tired of babysitting him in Florida and wants to go home.
Don’t understand this notion of “Yordan must be hurt” since he’s been struggling by his standards. Keep seeing people say this…it’s like you guys think even the best hitters don’t go through it. That’s just not how baseball works. Look how Judge started the year…now his OPS is above Tucker. Yordan’s problem has been chasing pitches out of the zone. He’s doing it at a career high rate and it’s not even close. That has nothing to do with a possible injury. I’m positive he will turn it around and at some point will get white hot like Judge has been recently. The last 7 games he’s slashing .375/.485/.630…it might be happening sooner than later. FYI he stole a base the other day…highly doubt he’s doing that if he’s playing injured.
We need to make a move for a SP soon before we lose our rotation to arm discomfort again. Abreu better only get spot starts, and if he’s still trash after 5 of those cut ties and end this bagwell stuff.
Oh he’s going to get hot and go on a run for sure. I thought maybe he needed a week where he had a couple games off to maybe refresh. But I guess being in chase mode doesn’t allow that, and now that would mean Abreu would most likely DH those games. Ugh
Or he’s tired and needs a **** ton of time off in between starts to get over this perpetual/annual “dead arm” period. I’m still baffled as to why the Astros… who should have full access to his medicals and already knew a lot of this from back in 2020…. Chose to automatically extend him and insisted on trying to continue his course as an every 4th day starter (in part because he signed an extension).
This Bagwell stuff is weird. He didn’t make the decision to sign Abreu. The prior GM and the owner made the decision to target Abreu in free agency and sign him. As for starting pitching, they signed a guy a few weeks ago with a history of success at the big league level as a starter who will get a chance most likely.
No one from the organization can look anyone in the eyes and tell them they are making this move in the interest of winning And that really sucks
