Because his intangibles were worth 15 games all by themselves. I heard Correa say it with my own ears in the playoffs.
Episode 75 of breathing orange fire dropped last night. Fun episode. We talk playoff race, astros run and Hunter brown/pitching.
Yankees and guardians start play tonight so there’s a chance to gain ground there. I would just like them to get the bye.
Looks like MLB hit the scheduling out of the park. Out last 2 series are against the Mariners, our division foe and the Guardians, currently the team we need to pass to get the first round bye.
Best record in AL on July 1 was 22 over .500. There were three teams at that spot. Seven weeks later we are here with the top record at 21 over. I don't think those teams are going anywhere. 25 over maybe. It's a matter of if the Astros can get there.
Dusty gave him a starting job despite batting .172 in 2021, .186 in 2022, and his revival to .191 in 2023 while having NEGATIVE TEN runs saved in 2023 and leading the league in passed balls in 2022 and 2023 AND only catching 14% of base stealers.
.188/.247/.317, that's a .564 OPS from RF since Tucker went down. Our outfielders not named Alvarez have collectively posted an OPS around .580 since that time. Hopefully one of these MFers has some kind of hot stretch left in them. It's looking increasingly likely that Yordan is gonna have to play LF in key games because Diaz and Caratini have to be in the lineup. Realistically, if we can get Tucker back we're still looking at 7 league average or better hitters with a legit top 5. I think a Singleton platoon at 1B could give league average production also. The OF situation looks abysmal, but if we get Tucker back I don't think it's quite as bleak as it seems right now. If he doesn't come back...well, lets just assume he does. I don't suspect Meyers/Dubon/Chaz to stay quite this bad, one of them will at least be passable offensively.
Now do with Bregman out. What if I told you hypothetically that Bregman didn’t sleep wrong on his elbow but has bone spurs in his elbow, pain is now unmanageable, surgery is the only real option to fix and let’s all hope the shot he might have had Thursday get him able to grit it out for the last 6 weeks. Hypothetically? I’m not a media guy or anything. I don’t break news. But occasionally people pass stuff along. Heard that story from a couple different people now. Theoretically. it’s just us chatting at the water cooler right now. I’m not saying any of that is true.
If this is true then any shot he might’ve had would have worked by now and he’d be able to play by today or tomorrow latest. It doesn’t take 5+ days for pain to subside after a shot.
Yep, this lineup with Tucker/Bregman healthy and a Singleton/RHH 1B platoon is 6-7 deep with Meyers in the 9 hole justified by his defense. The hole in LF just depends on having one of 4-5 guys (McCormick, Leon, Cabbage, Whitcomb, Dezenzo) get hot. One major thing in Houston’s favor is that both Pena and Diaz have been extremely good in August, and having that continue really mitigates the risk in LF/CF/1B.
Report was that he told Espada he was ready to go last night, per Chandler Rome, so that would match up with a timeline that made sense. Maybe they are doing the old dusteroo where they make a guys sit an extra day after he says put me in skip. If the problem is leading to infamation that flared up I have no idea how long that takes to go away.
We don't really have a hole in LF if Yordan plays there and Caratini Dh's. v RHP Altuve Tucker Bregman Yordan Yainer Singleton Caratini Pena Meyers V LHP Altuve Tucker Bregman Yordan Yainer Caratini Pena Dubon Meyers Show me a loss!
