That really is crazy. They have an entire MLB top 10 rotation on the IL, 3-4 of whom are unlikely to pitch again this season.
790am said Bloss might return in a week. Astros need him, plus 2 other starters for a logical and legitimate rotation going forward. None of Blanco/Hunter/Arrighetti can be trusted to throw 120+ innings effectively. Those guys can be good, but they need skipped starts for limited-innings's sake. Framber is a horse, but he's not invincible. I'm not overly worried about offense (adding a bat) as long as Tucker returns. Astros need extra arms immediately. We can barely even trust Hader pitching 2x in 3 days.
I’m comfortable with a rotation of Framber, Brown, Blanco, Garcia, and either Verlander or a trade acquisition; if Verlander is seriously injured they need another reliable arm. That would give them Arrighetti, Bloss, Blubaugh, Gusto, and Gordon in AAA which is pretty stacked.
Still gathering samples to confirm the pattern, but I think every time Dana Brown uses the word “grind” when talking about a player, that player is ****ed. But also that Graveman-McCullers tandem playoff closer gonna be lockdown.
Agreed about needing to add pitching. I can't believe you think a lineup with Meyers, Chas, Singleton in it is capable of winning a championship.
I admit I was drinking the Kool aid about Lance's recovery. This team has 2 objectives and those 2 things take different things. 1) make the postseason. With 71 games left, it is going to take a deep healthy roster with few weaknesses. 13 good pitchers and 13 average or better position players is better than a top heavy roster of 6 pitching and 5 hitting stars with the other 15 players below average. 2) win in the postseason. This takes star power and health, freshness. 6 star pitchers and 5 star hitters who are all healthy and rested with 15 other average- below average players can win a World Series. A healthy Lance would have replaced an OK pitcher with a star level one for the post season and month leading up to it.
